If so, please contact me directly via e-mail. What I'm really looking for is some way to confirm the correct factory A/C belt setup for the Buick 350. Right now mine is jury-rigged and wears out the belts quickly. I haven't been able to confirm the correct arrangement of all the belts and pulleys. If someone has that info and can either fax it or scan it and e-mail it to me, I'd appreciate it greatly. If you have a Buick 350-equipped rig and can send me some digital snapshots, that would be a big help as well but I still want to obtain a service manual for my truck. Nate ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2000 20:18:32 -0600 From: "Kim Smith" Subject: fsj: Couple of tips 1. If you need to replace the plastic seal under the lock cylinders, use a 1 1/16" x 7/8" x3/32" rubber o-ring. Works like a charm! BTW, while the lock cylinders ARE still available from the dealer, the seals aren't. 2. If you get new windshield washer nozzles from the dealer, take time to resolder the tubes to the brackets. When they made them, they must have been trying to save solder. Mine only went a year before the tubes separated from the brackets. I found a complete '95 AW4 23 spline for $600 that I'm going to get. What a weekend! # trips to the wrecking yards, and all the 4.0L engines needed major boring or sleeving! I stripped Elmo's 4.2L (found 1 bad piston, and 2 cracked top rings. Bearings were surprisingly good for being run out of oil 4 times!) I put on about 1200 miles + this weekend and I am mega-tired! First, I gotta do my ads for the Buy & Sell, then get some sleep and put Elmo's trans and NP208 in Blackie tomorrow. Then I need a Heavy Duty hitch put on Blackie (gotta haul a 24' trailer to Tonasket saturday) I'll have a 4.2L block to sell now too (330K, and still was standard bore, but needs boring now), and I have an '88 4.0L with good crank and bad cylinder walls. A 727 Jeep trans that slips in low gear only under load, even manually shifted to 1st (I'm going to check the rear band tomorrow before I pull it, just in case that's all it is) Elmo is going to go under the gun (Impact gun that is!) and the spring/body lift, frame swap/ stroker motor on LPG/ AW4 tranny and rebuilt NP208 are going to happen in the next month while I'm (hopefully) going to be training as a CNA. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JimBlair, Seattle,WA 1983 4.2L Chero 4dr http://homepages.go.com/~carnuck/carnuck.html Now appearing on allexperts.com Pics: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998&Auth=false ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2000 21:28:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Carnuck-at-webtv.net (James Blair) Subject: Re: fsj: Clutch Chatter A: Check your bellhousing bolts (Mine walked out on Elmo w/o me noticing! With the lockup setup on a the TF727 it might not be a bad idea to prevent problems by removing the four bolts holding the Torque Converter to the flex plate and gently slide the TC into the transmission so the engine will lift straight out. john - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com/UNIX ============================================================================== Microsoft Certified Professionals are to the computing industry what McDonald Certified Food Specialists are to gourmet restaurants. Does my '89 AW4 have the 21 spline shaft? I've been trying to get some straight info on this for a long time. A: You need either a NV249 for parts (I have been told this, but haven't done it myself, but the shop has been 95% right every other time) or a NV242HD to scavenge the front input shaft with chain drive, the front output shaft with the gear and a chain to upgrade your NP242 (note the letter difference NP to NV). Not sure yet about the output shaft spline comparison on the NV242HD/249 to NP242, but I was going to drill the one from the NV249 and make a SYE out of it if it fit, but I decided to stick with my NP208 for my J10 for now (I matched up a Dodge NP205 yesterday that looks to fit, but it would be overkill for less than 300 HP, AFAICT). Not sure if both are same spline count or size. From everything I have checked and documented so far, ALL the AW4s are 21 spline pre '91 (same as the 4.0L are non-HO pre '91. Essentially if it's not an HO motor, it's not a 23 spline *from the factory*) I was told that mid '90 they switched, but the '90 AW4 I have with 21 spline came from an Aug '90 built unit, and Sept 1st is the '91 cutoff point for building vehicles.
