I finally have acquired a GMB 110-1040P high flow water pump for my hybrid engine project. It took nothing short of a miracle and two Airtex water pumps received and returned before I finally had one of these thing= s in my hands. In few words I'm impressed. The design follows along the same line as other high flow water pumps like Flow Kooler's and uses a disk attached t= o the back of the impeller. There are $5 kits available from Summit, Jegs, etc. which have a sheet metal disk and some rivets which are supposed to accomplish the same thing. The difference is the Flow Kooler and the $5 kits are the GMB's disk is not riveted to the impeller blades. It is attached with some big, recessed, spot welds. Stacking gaskets to prevent= the rivet heads from contacting the back of the timing cover and/or havin= g the disk separate eventually because the rivet heads are ground down don'= t appear to be involved in the game with this water pump. BTW, it is relatively easy to come by the regular version of the GMB water pump. Its model number is 110-1040 without the "P." I've had one of= those on the Chero's 360 since the early '90s and it's never given me a second of concern. Try this: while in park with the engine running turn the steering wheel from all the way left to all the way right several times and see if you hear a clunk at all during that. If you do, have your wife watch the front spring bushings and shackles and see if they move back and forth when the clunk occurs. If they move then you need new spring bushings. I took Superdawg in to get his windshield replaced and his vent window swapped out... Got there at 3pm, left at 6pm! The guys at the Everett Speedy Auto Glass on Evergreen Way did a great job. In talking with them, and taking pictures, lots of them, we determined that the hardest windshield to replace was on an FSJ. :) http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/tech/FSJ-Speedy-Auto-Glass-Everett-WA.jpg What's funny is it's NOT the windshield itself, that's a piece of cake, it zips in and out... the problem is the stupid chrome trim... Al spent probably over an hour getting it back on, and he's been doing windows for over 25 years! Notice the blood on the dash and door (vent window pictures...)... I think he cut himself getting the trim off. In comparison, he said my xj would have been swapped out in less than half the time. They cut the old one out and glue the new one in. The chrome strips snap in place. These folks are the sames ones that swapped out the windshield in Fritz, also did a great job. Again, the windshield was swapped out in much less time... :) Anyways, I'm FTP'ing the pictures up to my server right now. There's a lot of them. I'll sort 'em out later and maybe write a page on it. Al would be very happy if you did your own FSJ... ;) I'm sharing the link with the XJ and Diesel-Benz list so they can see what's involved in obtaining "panoscopic vision"... The "Heat" setting directs air to come out the floor vent on the tranny hump (not out the A/C ductwork); "Defrost" routes the air out the dash vents at the windshield. The temperature slider controls the temperature of that air. The fan switch controls the force with which that air blows. The fan motor is in the engine compartment, and is separate from the fan used to blow air in the A/C system (so you can run them independently). >And the dash has two pull-out knobs that I presume are for vents to outside >air. Since the doors that direct airflow are vacuum-operated, you may have a problem with the vacuum feeding the system (there is a resevoir on the firewall that provides constant vacuum to the system), the switch behind the heater-controls (this can corrode and freeze-up; it can be freed with some penetrating oil), the vacuum lines to the door-actuating diaphrams (hoses fall-off or crack and leak), or the door-actuating diaphrams themselves. You can start by measuring for vacuum at the door-diaphrams themselves, and work backwards.
