Basically, anything that would assist me in avoiding parts-store idiots and mail-order ignorance would get my business. Two days later when I had time to change the fluid I dropped the pan off my trany, and took off the filter. I puled the new gasket out of the box it was the the wrong shape the filter looked wrong too. Now it was 9:10 pm, the big wheel store was always open till 9:30 on week nights so drove down there and found out that Checker (same store new owners) closes at 9:00. My jeep was stuck in the garage over night with no trany fluid. The next day I went into the Checker had them look up the gasket set again, the came up with the same number, one of the employees there has a dodge truck with a TF 727 trany the computer showed a different number for his truck but that number is a non stocked special order item. This was the second time since they changed to the Checker computer system that I've tried to buy parts there for my GW the other time I need an alternator belt and the one the computer showed was about 20" to short. There's a Pep Boys near my now I've been there three times now and they haven't yet had the part I was looking for. When I replaced my front wheel bearings I tried about 10 differnt parts stores and none of them had a full set I would have had to go to 3 different stores for 4 bearings and a seals. I wound up calling a industrial bearing supplier on a whim, they had all the bearings and seals in stock at less that half the price of buying them at auto parts stores. > > > Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 20:33:00 -0500 > From: JeepNut > Subject: Re: fsj: another crazy idea from snohomish > > Sounds like a great idea to me John. > I don't find trips to the parts store especially rewarding anyway, but > especially where Jeep parts are concerned.
