You just have to work you way through the power path to find out where there's a problem. > Mine is an '89 with the new small starter, which, I believe has the > solenoid mounted on the starter. Check the fan clutch, they are renown for failing, usually by not engaging. 2. Replace the thermostat. If you tow a lot in the heat, go down to a 160deg. Change back to a 180 or 190 if it gets cold in the winter where you live. 3. Adjust bands and linkage on auto tranny, go to synthetic fluid, add a tranny cooler. 4. Replace the water pump with a high capacity model, Flow Cool is a good one. 5. Flush cooling system with a Flush 'n Fill kit. Then use a heavy duty cooling system cleaner and flush again. Refill system with fresh coolant, adding one can of Igloo coolant enhancer. 6. Flush the bugs etc... from the radiator with a strong spray of water from the backside. DO NOT use the high pressure gun at the car wash! Should solve it. kim - ---- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: 19 August, 2000 08:05 Subject: fsj: AMC inherant heat problems > I've been having problems keeping our Cherokee cool while towing. You will also have to cut the bar from the cylinder to the latch to length, they come several inches too long, must have been used on other modela with a longer reach from lock to latch. kim - ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.J.
