Here's to another 35+ years of its reliable, solid, fuel-efficient service! If I had realized sooner that this fell on a weekend, I would have planned a party, like I did for its 30th (complete with oversized birthday hat, birthday cards that guests brought for it, and the bottle of Perrier, filled with biodiesel, which one guest gave as a gift.) http://www.brucecaruthers.com/images/Ye_Olde_Lime_Limo_Turns_30,Hat-300w-1427.jpg Guess I will need to plan something for its 40th, since it looks like that falls on a weekend as well! - -bkc Lynnwood, WA (his) '76 MB 240D [W115.117/616.916] (hers) '92 Toyota Celica GT (ours) '93 MB 300D 2.5 Turbo [W124.128/602.962] *** john at http://wagoneers.com *** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2011 14:32:31 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: correct details of SD33(t) connection to TF727 - adapter, starter ring, spacer, flex plate, tc, - UPDATE on FSJ #27 got it sorted out around 2am... when I found the pictures from the delivery of the Scout SD33T... the starter ring is inside the adapter, right on the crank... see: http://fotomeister.us/2009/10-Oct-03-Centralia-SD33T-superdawg-tug/SD33T-tf727/JEM_4845_2009_10_03.jpg http://fotomeister.us/2009/10-Oct-03-Centralia-SD33T-superdawg-tug/SD33T-tf727/JEM_4846_2009_10_03.jpg http://fotomeister.us/2009/10-Oct-03-Centralia-SD33T-superdawg-tug/SD33T-tf727/JEM_4862_2009_10_03.jpg the back end of the SD33T (out of an '80 Scout) http://fotomeister.us/2009/10-Oct-03-Centralia-SD33T-superdawg-tug/SD33T-tf727/P1100894_2009_10_03.jpg THIS SHOWS THE ORDER: adapter to block, starter ring, spacer, flex plate... (when full). Now after adding a cable from the engine to the frame (already had one), the gauge jumped to 3/4. I also found that this had an aux tank at one point. Next I'll remove the solenoid/switch when I get more line, and then try to put a ground to the tank, to the bed, and the bed to the frame and to the cab... Got the seats installed... nice... Mirrors are all tight... next on the list... reconnect and properly wire up the stereo... I need to get a decent set of tires... these things are useless in grass, gravel or pavement... they're 16", firestones??? will have to look. Have a pair of black low back buckets from a J4000 that are fair to poor... but usable... I robbed the hardware... free for the taking, along with some scrap wood for kindling... ;) btw, David, I don't see the pictures... can you provide the full URL? I don't know how I would have gotten a Mopar adapter... the guy only had IH / Scout stuff... the TF727s RV version has a round case... they use them in motor homes and service trucks, the trans shop had no problem finding me a better case... the one I had was worn or damaged... Looking at the pictures of the setup in Centralia I'm very eager to get my J10 stepside back... it's a much nicer truck than #27, although #27 is in superb shape... been watching the prices of J-trucks on ebay... if I can get all the little details cleaned up on this truck I may be able to sell this for a nice price... will just keep working out the issues and fix stuff as I go along... :) john On 06/11/2011 02:36 AM, david-at-lang.hm wrote: > On Sat, 11 Jun 2011, john wrote: > > >> I sorted through pictures, diagrams and fuzzy recollections... >> >> the picture I had that I thought was a flywheel wasn't... >> it was a starter ring for the AT... the parts list doesn't show it >> but I believe that it mates to spacer off the crank... >> >> >> so... it would be crank, spacer, starter ring, flex plate, torque converter. >> > my memory is fuzzy as well, but I thought the 'starter ring' was on the > torque converter, not a separate piece. > > I know that when I unbolted the flexplate and spacer from the crankshaft > there was no 'starter ring' in sight. > > >> details cleaned up here: http://johnmeister.com/DIESELS/SD33T-and-IH-Scouts/Automatic_SD33_SAE4/ >> > looking at these pictures, I think I am seeing a mistake > > the pictures > > JEM_4862_2009_10_03.jpg > P1100898_2009_10_03.jpg > P1100899_2009_10_03.jpg > P1100900_2009_10_03.jpg > P1100901_2009_10_03.jpg > P1100902_2009_10_03.jpg > P1100905_2009_10_03.jpg > > show the mopar adapter (attached to the engine) > > the picture P1100879_2009_10_03.jpg shows the SAE#4 adapter (sitting in > the bed of the truck) > > note how the SAE#4 adapter has a completely circular mateing survace with > a uniforme width compared to the mateing surface of the mopar adapter. > > also look at how the two adapters look different from the side/front when > attached to the engine > > the mopar adapter is in > > JEM_4840_2009_10_03.jp > > note the pockets for bolts > > the SAE#4 adapter is in > > JEM_0316-SD33-adapter-side-view.jpg > TF727-lower-right-starter-ring-lower-left.jpg > > note the flange (no pockets) and the flat surface on the right side (and > again the completely circular bolt pattern in the second picture (attached > to the engine with a clutch inside of it) > > David Lang > > >> also, moved all the scout stuff around and cleaned it up: >> http://johnmeister.com/DIESELS/SD33T-and-IH-Scouts >> >> I'm going to clean up the manual trans stuff now, but don't have nearly as much info there... >> >> If anyone has a diagram or a clear picture of how all these pieces go together please send me a copy.
