I never considered them of any lighting use, so I never bothered to check the system and was debatting if I could turn them into separate blinkers, and add a real BU light to see what I may hit. Time to check the 85, the seat belt light is non-op and so is the emergency brake light, it works on cranking..... Replaced tranny fluid, filter, and gasket. That pesky tranny fluid leak (more like gusher) is gone and the transmission shifts very nicely. I didn't adjust the bands while I was in there. I probably should have but the shifts seem fine so I wasn't too terribly worried about it. Advance Auto Parts had the gasket (rubber not cork) and filter in stock for about $7.00. 2.) Ordered a rear main crank seal and oil pan gasket so that I can seal up the last of the leaks that I have found. Also ordered a new fuel sending unit so I don't run the beast out of gas accidentally. 3.) Started working on overhead console and headliner. I have two of the consoles now thanks to me buying one off ebay that I didn't need. Both work...even the compass and temp modules. I want to find a transmitter for the keyless entry. Any ideas? If anyone needs an overhead console for a GW I might be persuaded to let one of them go VERY cheap so that I don't have too much Jeep clutter in the shed. The compass module alone is $500 on Team Grand Wagoneer. I have seen the entire console assembly go for much more than that. I take trades too... 4.) Ordered a bunch of cool electronic gizmos. Now I have tunes (AM/FM/XM), GPS, and XM weather and traffic services. Here are links to the gizmos... Kenwood KVT-514 in-dash stereo/DVD/GPS system http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/2009_Car_Entertainment/KVT-514 Kenwood KNA-G510 NAV/XM unit http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/2009_Car_Entertainment/KNA-G510 Audiovox XM Smart Tuner and Kenwood interface http://www.ebay.com/itm/300605932267?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1825wt_1396 I got all of this stuff off of eBay for MUCH less than dealer prices. All told, I think I spent about $350 and even got the correct wiring pigtail to match up with my 89 GW factory harness plug. Next, I gotta get a set of speakers all around. There is only one working speaker in my GW. That means all of the wiring and speakers will get replaced with better-than-stock stuff. I plan on getting a rear seat monitor for the kiddos on long road trips. Most new monitors are near-HD-quality and provide for wireless headphones so parents don't have to listen to Spongebob for 9 hours straight. The Kenwood head unit allows me to split the vehicle into front and rear zones so that the kids can watch movies and the grown-ups (me and the wife) can listen to whatever we want. The GPS system interfaces with the XM tuner to provide real-time weather and traffic no matter where we are. Next up...reconnect the HI/LOW selector lever and figure out why the t-case isn't showing/shifting into 4WD. I need to mess with vacuum hoses and the cruise control too. Word to the wise...if your burgundy leather seats are cracked and/or faded, cordovan shoe polish does NOT work to help clean them up. Ask me how I know this... Has anyone ever successfully installed a rear seat A/C system in a GW and made it look at least close-to-factory? - -- Ken Gaines Sr. GIS Analyst/Petroleum Landman Red River Oil & Gas, LLC (318) 227-4870 Office (318) 422-5731 Mobile arklatexgeo-at-gmail.com http://www.rrog.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Oct 2011 16:42:36 -0500 From: Ken Gaines Subject: Re: fsj: New technology Forgot to add that I replaced the starter too. Those new gear reduction starters work VERY well! This thing spins my old, tired 360 over like nobody's business and it starts right up. I also replaced the starter relay that is mounted on the passenger side wheel well. The original one was pretty ratty looking. When I got the starter from the parts house, I was skeptical to say the least. I saw how small the motor was and thought "There is no way in hell that this thing is gonna turn that big V8 over." Boy was I ever wrong!
