Before doing a bunch of heater upgrades I'd make sure that the heater core still flows water and that the thermostat works. With my Wag rust holes and all I would have the window open in half a mile on cold mornings in Detroit. The stock heater should cook you alive. Pizza box zip tied to the grille will help (been there done that) but properly functioning thermostat does even better. On the highway even when I lived in New England I barely recall turning on the fan at all. All of my speakers were completely shot. The cones were all but gone so they all got replaced too. Amazingly enough, the wires to all of the speakers were still operable. I was amazed that the OEM radio actually worked. That's why I kept it. I have to say, though, that the new technology is really nice in a GW. The SAT/GPS/WX system is great and will be wonderful on long road trips. Oh yeah, rain and fog. That was sort of a fall and spring thing in New England. I recall it often not being all that cold but the windows all pretty well fogged. I don't have to deal with that here in the desert...or even when I lived in Detroit. I tried fog-x back in the 90's, but recall that it didn't work as well as Rain-X. Do you have a decent thermostat in that 258? The cab on a J-truck is a pretty small space to heat and that carburetted six should get plenty hot enough to run the heater. For the V8 a 180 or 185 degree stat is about right. I'd guess the same thing is true for the six. Even the dog breath heater in my Dakota (which Chrysler borrowed from the Dodge Omni) will eventually get the cab warm enough that I open the windows. - -----Original Message----- From: Tesar Landon-R16884 To: Jim Blair ; wallacem7 ; fsj-digest Sent: Fri, Nov 4, 2011 1:09 am Subject: RE: fsj: Heater upgrades?
