This is the same one I looked at a couple months back. The guy dropped the price to where I was comfortable. Looking forward to getting it. It has a properly built automatic. Loved the way it shifted and felt when I tested it out. After a nearly 2500 buck price drop it's just right. > > http://wagoneers.com/tmp/compare-tdis.html > > Need to get the white 02 jetta tdi sedan ready to sell. Glad we're done with the snow. Smells like a dog, so got some carpet cleaner and meguires odor eliminator. Was getting ready to move some of the add-on stuff that won't help sell the white jetta, but my wife isn't sure she wants to sell it now after driving it back about 50 miles. She says the jetta is easier to drive than the 87 300D and has better visibility. And the ac/heat work better in the vw than in the benz (sorry rube...). I don't think the visibility is worse in the benz. Both are worse than my J10. :). I wish my 300D had the convenience package my 91 had. Auto up/down windows, it's crazy how you get used to nice features. It's her call, I like both, but prefer the 300d over the white jetta. Still need to replace the rear bushings but it is so much better than before. Either car will easily sell now. The transmission in the white car has a reman valve body, you can tell by the way it shifts. Not a problem, the shop I trust explained that's the way it is. The silver wagon must have got a new one, because it shifts better than the 300d, and that shifts perfectly. ;) Totally love my little silver tdi wagon. It has 215k on it. Needs a few minor things like shocks, a new arm rest and a de-dogging. :). The AT in this thing is utterly perfect, totally unnoticeable. And it feels quicker than the white jetta. When we got home my son came out and gave his approval, said it's much more respectable than my first jetta wagon. Sitting at a mall, soon as I get home will fix my J10 and start cleaning "stanley". That's what the PO's kids called the jetta wagon. Nice family, will continue to call him stanley. stanley will make a good partner to superdawg, when superdawg is done. My wife will be able to drive either one. :) The folks that sold stanley are getting a Ford Ranger extended cab 4x4 to replace it. He got a company car for work and didn't need stanley any more. We talked about a part trade for my J10 but the standard cab killed the deal. Which is fine by me, like my J10. I wonder how long it'll take my wife to decide between the benz and the jetta. :) One thing is certain, no wrong choice. John __john_at_http://wagoneers.com__ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jan 2012 01:31:57 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: new toy, old toy with bad wiring. picked up my "new" used 2002 Jetta TDI Wagon Saturday... trying to decide whether to keep the '87 300d or the '02 Jetta TDI Sedan... more later... http://fotomeister.us/2012/01-Jan-28-JettaAdventure-Mountains-Mac/ALL.html Sunday fixed the wiring on my '83 J10 - thought the alternator was bad... after all it drained the battery once, failed a low rpm test at mcparts and was charging all the time after that... clearly a bad alternator, right? well, pulling the wiring apart pointed out some serious wiring issues... on the brink of a car-b-que... so... I rerouted the wiring through two 100A fuses... the alternator by default would run to the amp gauge... the return leg after the amp gauge feeds the dash, then goes out to the battery... So, I took the lead from the battery post on the Alternator to a 100A fuse and fed it directly to the battery... I took the leg from the dash and ran it to a different 100A fuse and to the battery. This bypasses the AMP gauge completely... well, almost... I'll pull the cluster and jumper the back of the gauge so it does... right now there's a wire running up there that's hot but not doing much otherwise. the truck starts faster than ever before... partially because the coil wiring was also slightly messed up... left the truck sit over night and it started right up, no battery drain... alternator tests good on my tester... taking the new one back to the store. :) Saved $60 with a $1.99 connector... (the alternator plug wiring and fusible link were bad) http://fotomeister.us/2012/01-Jan-30-wiring-laptops-mac/ALL.html john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -o|||||o- fahrvergnugen y'all Snohomish, Washington - where Jeeps and VWs don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 TRSTGZS http://JohnMeister.com HTTP://WAGONEERS.COM http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #3848 **************************
