I spent some quality time with the pickup today. EGR may well have been stuck, I worked it and blew it out with compressed air. Also, it is now run from ported vacuum, not manifold vacuum. I took the top off the carb, and observed the fuel coming in and the float coming up to stop the flow from the electric fuel pump. Looks good. The gasket between the top of the carb and the main body was torn in the middle section. I found a gasket from a spare carb and put that on. Also, it may be that the one of the needles was not well seated in its jet, not sure about this, and had to be careful when reassembling. I wrapped a rag around one of the spark plug wires where two were touching. Now truck runs rather well. No more cutting in/out at high rpm. Idle is very smooth, I've driven it up hill and down, cold / hot, backwards and forwards. It does not stall. Wife helped put on a new alternator belt. (ok I just turned the crank bolt while she worked the belt over the water pump pulley) I blipped the throttle from idle, and it says 'VROOM!' Let's go ! I didn't know a 258 could say 'VROOM' - - Landon Practicing Heel/Toe double clutch and loving it. 79 J10 //////////// On May 10, 2012, at 9:28 AM, Michel Balea wrote: > Nose up or nose down sounds like a float issue, not too familiar w the > carter but try to find which way does the float axis is rotating.
