The 304 has a smaller bore than a 360, but the same stroke. ######## john @ wagoneers.com ######## "A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education" - Theodore Roosevelt ######## two word summary: Trust Jesus ######## - -----Original Message----- From: "rick.george0256@gmail.com" Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2013 19:43:48 To: Subject: Re: 304 Exhaust Manifold Question Good question on 304 vs 360. Until recently I haven't had to deal with the engine. I'm learning now though! I keep you posted. Thanks again! I checked bjsoffroad.com as well. He had the entire bolt/gasket set for the 360, I think that'll work though. But didn't see if he had plugs as part of that kit. I need to ck my 83, making noise around #5, not sure if it's exhaust or valve or if my 360 is going to die like my son's just did... A lifter failed on #5 and snapped the cam by #2. Is the 304 different in stroke or bore from the 360 or both? :)######## john @ wagoneers.com ######## "A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education" - Theodore Roosevelt######## two word summary: Trust Jesus ########From: "rick.george0256@gmail.com" Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2013 12:56:02 -0500To: Subject: Re: 304 Exhaust Manifold QuestionI'll double check. Great information on the 304. I see the one site sells a set of 7 plugs for something like $6.95. If they fit, then that might be the solution. Fortunately, in our county there aren't any emissions requirements (yet). I'll keep you posted. Hopefully this will work for you... what I did on mine was to crimp the tubes over, may have even put liquid steel in there... have also welded 'em shut before... depending on what you've got handy at the time. I have seen these manifolds "burn" through... if the mix/timing isn't right they'll overheat and fail... seen it at least twice... happy wrenching! john - ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - -o|||||o- Linux: the choice of a GNU generation http://WAGONEERS.COM Snohomish, WA- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ...shop AMSOIL directly at: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education" Theodore Roosevelt (26th President (1901-09), 1858-1919) - Trust Jesus - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- # # From: Rick # To: john@wagoneers.com # Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2013 14:25:08 -0500 # Subject: 304 Exhaust Manifold Question # # John, # # # # A bit of a technical question here regarding the 304 exhaust manifolds and those tubes that were part of the primitive pollution control system way back (the 258 straight 6 in my C?C?84 CJ-7 has them too). # # # # Is there a way to get them out of the manifold and replace the keeper bolts with plain bolts to close up the holes? # # # # On a side note, all of the tubes were sheared off when I bought Gladiator C?C? so they vent to the atmosphere.
