Owner: Ingemar Jakobsson 1979 Cherokee 4dr 240TD, TH400, QT, D44 (used to be a 360) Tire size 235/75-15 Average milage: 9.5litre/10km at 130km/h Total build cost: 20 000 Swedish crowns approx. 2400US Build time: Hard to say as he was doing other projects at the same time (ie. a couple of Unimogs) (Embedded image moved to file: pic20733.pcx) Features: MB 240 Diesel (rebuilt at home) Turbocharger from a Volvo, intercooler mounted between grille and radiator. Grille guard (home made, like everything else) 6 way powerseat undercarriage. Seats from an Opel Ascona. Back side panels and extra rear floorboard made out of plywood with storage space built in. compartments built in. Barn doors with hinges from a MB 308 microbus. (150 hour build time.) Tail lights are Hella truck lights. (Embedded image moved to file: pic22995.pcx) Oil pan had to be customized for clearance, oil pickup came from the old 360. Oil pump moved to outside RH and now belt driven. 9" Converter with 2400 rpm stall speed. (took a long time picking the right one) Adapter plate between engine and trans. had to be fabricated. (a major undertaking) This and the picking the right conv. was the biggest challange, basically had to trial fit the engine and trans. together in order to fabricate an adapter plate. Making of barn doors and especially fitting in the window frames was a major undertaking too, he made a few mistakes that complicated everything and delayed this project, (don't we all) looking back it could have been done a little smarter he says. It was a pleasure to drive once I got it up to highway speed, yes it's slow picking up speed, too slow in my opinion, but then again I'm used to hot rodded V8s. A short description of ride would be: a solid tight feel, very quiet, (Wag like) can't hear it's a Diesel, no strange noises, much like what driving a brand new Chero/Wag would have felt back when they were new. (A note: much softer ride than my Chief or a J truck, infact I liked it so much that I'llhave to address that on my own trucks.) It's not easy to cover everything second hand and Ingemar don't have a computer but if you have questions feel free to contact his son at: m95_jan@m.kth.se Regards, Tommy
