from a week or two's worth of critical patches

Started looking at the details of each on https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/ but just don't have the time...
the thing to consider is that many of these often alter very complex code that may introduce new vulnerabilities... there
are far too many lines of code to be tested and the underlying architecture has issues. That an application can alter system
files was not a good design. But in their defense, this was intended as a home system without a network. The market drove the
product to do things for which it was never originally intended. Whereas UNIX and later Linux began on the network, sharing and secure.
