SOLD - 1991 Mercedes Benz 300D 2.5L Turbo Diesel - oil pump failed, engine repairable
AT, AC, pw, pdl, cruise, sunroof, new tires, power slotted brake rotors, EXCELLENT condition... 267,000 miles
heated seats, traction control/limited slip, EUROPEAN headlights, self-leveling rear end... only non-original item is the stereo, and the wiring is in place to return to stock.
windshield is only a couple years old, has amsoil synthethics throughout, new glow plug controller and glow plugs, recent replacement of high pressure seals and fuel filters.
HOWEVER... The oil pump failed on the freeway... the engine is rebuild-able, possibly even repairable by just replacing the oil pump chain that broke... oil chain parts less than $50 - around 8 hrs labor...
engine turns over without noise, will start but because the lifters have no oil it doesn't stay running.
because it's an unknown and at least 8 hrs labor we're not going to attempt repairs. We've had the car for over 7 years, have put over 100,000 miles on it averaging 30 mpg. For someone willing to take their chances this is a great opportunity to get a fine car.
This is the first time it's let us down... thinking back about it... I missed a symptom... I heard the noise and thought it was the belt tensioner, was going to replace it... got busy...
now it's too late...
asking $1900 - open to reasonable offers - if you have a 124 series sedan this would be a gold mine of parts... traction control, auto leveling suspension, good rims, HEATED seats...
Will take less if I can keep the following items (NOT parting, just removing new items I can use):
1) less $300 to keep the new Pirelli P4s - bring another set of rims/tires or we'll pull on the trailer and I'll get the rims to you.
2) less $250 to keep the Euro lights for a 124 series - stock lights easily found
3) less $50 to keep the recent Interstate battery
4) less $50 to keep the JVC mp3/CD 200W stereo
5) less $50 to keep the recent alarm/remote door lock system
if I keep these items then you can have the car for as little as $1200.
This car would sell for $4000-$5000 if it were running. There's on in Oregon for $6200 without heated seats, traction control and auto leveling suspension. There's a wrecked car like this in CA for $2500, you could buy both and build one. Tons of options.
Estimated parts costs for a complete engine rebuild are at least $1500.
It is too nice of a car to part out without trying to find it a home.
I am flexible on the price if it goes to a good home and can see the road again. Will consider parting in a few weeks, will start collecting names and desired parts.
I WILL KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER working 2.5L Turbo Diesel - OM 602.962 - or a non-turbo 2.5L perhaps out of a 190D. If you know of one please let me know about it.
This could be as simple as replacing the oil pump chain, or as involved as replacing the bearings in the crank and maybe new rings... won't know until you open it up.
