Jeep Nut, thanx! Thank you Joakim! john meister snohomish, washington This increases the odds of a Mercedes Diesel pushing my '87 XJ... :) ---- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Tue, 25 May 2004, Jeep Nut wrote: Hi John, ...just in from my friend Joakim in Uppsala, Sweden... The construction kit consist of a new flywheelcover which is assebled on the Mercedes engine och which fits towards the Landrovers gearbox, also a new support bearing with belonging cap which is mounted in the Mercedes engine crankshaftend to support the ingoing shaft from the gearbox. As clutch we use Mercedes original pressureplate and disccentre. The disccentre is to be modified a i bit to fit, and is described in the enclosed contruction kit instruction. The construction kit fits Landrovers cars, doesn't matter if they have had diesel or gasoline engines. It is possible to mount the MB300D (OM617(the one I like)), but the radiator must be moved and the hood must be extended! (Do that Steve!) Motorattachment/holders(?) is not included in this set, that can easily be manufactured by the buyer himself. Starting engine is on the Landrover engines left side, but on the Mercedes engines on the right side, so a indentation must be made for the starting engines nose on the edge of the gearbox housing. Then must the flywheel be modified a bit to fit in the gearbox housing. The (goverment owned) Swedish Motor-Vehicle Inspection Company approve engine change in the Landrover, but it is up to the buyer to get the modification approved by them before the modification job starts. The construction kit includes this: - flywheelhousing - supportbearing in the crankshaftend - cap to the supportbearing - construction kit instructions Good luck! /Joakim -------------------- Original request: I am intersted in the specifics about the use of an adapter plate for 5 cylinder diesel Mercedes OM617 engine to Jeep drivetrain conversions from a Swedish firm called Scandanavian Marine Trading AB []. The following photo[second picture down] of a 240D engine dropped into a Full Size Jeep with a Volvo Turbo attached: from 05 DEC 2001 is on the wagoneers site. ------------------------------- 2.7L Mercedes Benz Common Rail Diesel engines are used in European Jeep Grand Cherokee (WG - The G is for the Austrian built model). This may make a Jeep specific conversion easier particularly if you take the whole engine and gearbox assembly from salvage. Not sure what transfercase options are available for the 2.7CRD but it's most likely one of the fluid coupling models. --- Vincent Bentley w: http://www.jeepclub.co.uk t: +44(0)7900 437975 e: vince@jeepclub.co.uk
