got this from a friend in Ireland... seems that with the "new" science of carbon dioxide being a pollutant, they have a new tax revenue source... ----- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -o|||||o- fahrvergnugen y'all Snohomish, Washington - where Jeeps and VWs don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 TRSTGZS http://JohnMeister.com HTTP://WAGONEERS.COM http://fotomeister.us ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Stephen Rigley Thanks to the "Green" party, the motor tax system here in Ireland changed to a CO2 emissions based system for cars registered in 2008 onwards. Band A: http://www.irishlinks.co.uk/lowest-carbon-car-tax-ireland.htm cars that produce 0-120g/km CO2 - 104 euro road tax; Band B: cars that produce 121g - 140g/km CO2 - 156 euro road tax; Band C: cars that produce 141g-155g/km CO2 - 302 euro road tax; Band D: cars that produce 156g-170g/km CO2 - 447 euro road tax; Band E: cars that produce 171g-190g/km CO2 - 630 euro road tax; Band F: cars that produce 191g-225g/km CO2 - 1,050 euro road tax; Band G: cars that produce 226g/km CO2 and over - 2,100 euro road tax Compare this to the "old" system based on engine size : Engine Size cc Annual Car Tax in Euro Not over 1,000 172 1,001 to 1,100 259 1,101 to 1,200 286 1,201 to 1,300 310 1,301 to 1,400 333 1,401 to 1,500 357 1,501 to 1,600 445 1,601 to 1,700 471 1,701 to 1,800 551 1,801 to 1,900 582 1,901 to 2,000 614 2,001 to 2,100 784 2,101 to 2,200 823 2,201 to 2,300 860 2,301 to 2,400 895 2,401 to 2,500 935 2,501 to 2,600 1120 2,601 to 2,700 1164 2,701 to 2,800 1204 2,801 to 2,900 1248 2,901 to 3,000 1293 3,001 or more 1566 As cars registered prior to 2008 are on the old system, someone with a '08 BMW 520d will pay 176 euro tax, while his next door neighbour with a '07 520d will pay 614 euro! So, along with this encouragement to upgrade to a newer car, we also had a government run scrappage scheme, I wonder what kind of emissions are involved in producing new cars + in shipping them here, bet its not as Green as they thought, dust to dust measurement and all that. With my 20year old 1.6 Roadster I'm still paying 445e yet it gets "greener" everyday ;-) There is an upshot though for used diesel lovers... just over 70% of new sales are diesel ;-) http://www.motorcheck.ie/blog/strong-start-for-new-car-registrations/ Steve re: Australia parliament passes divisive carbon tax http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/**world-asia-pacific-15269033
