Date: Fri, 18 May 2012 Subject: [db] W123 Diesel estate drifting champ, and Diesel engine swap ideas this looks like a blast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24afjVqm2Uw&feature=player_embedded The guy is using a modified '98 OM606 (3.0L Diesel) out of an E300 with a Scania turbo... and a few other tweaks... estimated to make about 450hp... the 300TD is the 123 body style from 1975-1885. The stock W123 came with a 3.0L OM617 Turbo Diesel from 82-85, they were naturally aspirated prior to that... went from 88hp to 125hp... Turbos and Diesels... the perfect combination... WHICH BRINGS UP THE TOPICS OF DIESEL SWAPS... Mercedes, VW, GM, Cummins, Nissan... :) I'm putting an SD33T (from an 80 scout) into my '83 J10 stepside... but have considered several conversions... also did a 6.2 into a 91 Grand Wagoneer... my J10 project has been going on for years, using a CJ-10A as an inspiration and test bed to confirm the drivetrain... enjoyed the SD33 with the same trans, etc. Know that the turbo version will be even nicer, especially in the lighter J10... the cj-10a was NOT light... Putting a TDI or an OM617 or better on OM602 into an XJ, TJ or even a WJ has been a day dream for some time... :) The biggest hangup on a swap is of course mating it to a transmission... I need an automatic which complicates the process significantly... I've had a few ideas about using the stock transmission mated to the original engine with a divorced transfer case setup... but in smaller jeeps that gets long and complicated, and expensive...
