Mason" Subject: RE: vacuum re: vacuum system repair costs I'm with John on this one. The easiest way I found to pick out the three or four pesky vacuum locks I had on the '80 240 was to replace its doors with the ones from the '82! :) Certainly there are easier methods. Also replaced a vacuum actuator pump for about 32 bucks, and an hour's labor... remove door panels and plastic sheeting and it's right there (make sure window is rolled up, though, and be careful of the wiring for the power windows. easy to screw up). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jul 1998 20:00:21 -0700 From: john Subject: Re: diesel-benz list started, you'll need to authenticate At 11:44 AM 7/24/98 EDT, RBucha7924-at-aol.com wrote: >Hi John, >Glad this n.g. is up & running. I live in Beaverton, Oregon. I own a '77 300 D with 220,000 miles. My other car is a '89 Jeep Cherokie with 180,000. The previous own was from Snohomish BTW. (No rust, either.) On my Benz, after my wife actually melted a piston by over heating the car at 190,000. I had the engine rebuilt. Then I had the transmission rebuilt at 200,000. It was totally worn out and kept shaking the car at certain RPMs. Now I've got a car that runs great and anticpate it running great for another 100K. The question I have is-How Do You Kill IT?, so I can get another car? (Joke) I had a real problem with a nasty water leak, too. The battery acid had leaked a portion of the metal in the "gutter" area under the hood. I had a real problem finding it-was gunna throw the damn thing away- but then with the help of a friend we located it and handled it. Replaced all the carpets, etc. Blah Blah. I'm Done!
