You have to get close to see it, which is why my friend was able to pick it up at an auction 6 years ago pretty cheap, it was a one owner from CA, they probably traded it in and the dealer looked at the paint situation and auctioned it. Turns out my buddy ended up bidding against himself because he thinks the dealer played along bidding to get the price up. :) later, john --------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/ Snohomish, Washington USA - where jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ------------------------------------------------------------------ jesus - don't leave life without him... - ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Aug 1998 23:49:17 -0700 From: john Subject: cup holders Any recommendations for a cup holder in an 81 300d? The cup holder is a plastic cage type thing with a hook to be hooked on a window or something. I wired the holder to the seat adjustment handle with a long twist tie. That worked for awhile. =20 Now, since I don't drink coffee- only water- I fill a camelbak sports drink reservoir (40 oz) and sit it beside me on the seat. It has a tube with a bite valve on it and is designed to be worn on the back while running. I wear it out of the car, but not in the car although I guess I could put it on the front. I have also used a large sippee cup (Tuppeware) But as I say, I don't drink coffee. MTAs run on servers; they are the programs that take the mail from your client (MUA), and pass it along from one server to the next until they reach the destination. there are some strict internet standards about how servers talk to each other. unfortunately, there are also some Extremely Broken MTAs out there. most of the Extremely Broken MTAs are old Windows/MSDOS/Workgroup type products, the MSMails and CC:Mail packages of the world. generally the issues arise from the fact that they were not originally intended for connectivity to the internet, and the internet gateway component is a "bag on the side", to use some old MIT AI Lab jargon. the internet standards are quite strict about how error messages are to be sent back to the originating host when things break. there is a specific field in the message envelope that directs error messages; this is a field that you, as users, should never see, as it is supposed to be stripped off, along with other envelope data, before mail ends up in your MUA (whether that be outlook or eudora or pegasus or some other mail client package.) however, the return address should never be stripped off before final delivery, as errors can occur right up until the last minute. many old packages (MSMail and CC:Mail being prominent among them) throw the error return path away the instant the message arrives, long before they determine that the message doesn't exist or that the disk is full. when an error occurs, since they've already bagged the error return, well, guess what happens. they just grab a handy address, such as the one in the Reply-To: field, and send the error there. if the reply-to field happens to point to the mailing list, i think you can figure out the rest. this sort of thing doesn't happen as often as it used to; there have been times in the past when something has gone haywire at 7pm on a friday, and i've come in to find megabytes and megabytes of email in my inbox on monday morning. i haven't had one of these in quite a while, but then, i've been running some pretty strict policies on my mailing lists designed to suppress these things. setting reply-to in a restrictive manner is one of them. >At 11:57 AM 8/11/98 GMT, R Beasley wrote: >>This list has very little activity. I think the problem is that the rings aren't seated at startup so you burn off some oil, I don't think it's an injector issue. If it was the smoke would be black or white. (White could also be a bad head gasket, white with a bluish tint is a lean injector. Black is an injector that's squirting improperly, either too much or not fanning properly.) I haven't used any AMSOIL Diesel Fuel Modifier for awhile, or Cetane Boost, I hadn't thought about that. Do these things come standard with block heaters??? Where do they go if they do? This isn't a serious problem and is typical of Diesels. When the engine is cold the rings aren't seated completely... It could also be a timing issue, but since I've got plenty of power, and my mileage is good, I think it's the ring issue. A block heater will solve it. Without having the mileage stats I wasn't sure if it was the timing or what. At 25mpg it's just a cold diesel... :) john john meister sr CAD sys admin, Intermec meister-at-intermec.com (425) 356.1663 http://www.intermec.com ( http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john john-at-virtual-cafe.com ) > ---------- > From: TDGordon[SMTP:dgordon-at-sheafferinternational.com] > Sent: Tuesday, August 11, 1998 7:16 AM > To: diesel-benz-at-digest.net > Subject: Re: fritz on smokes > > smoke at start up - me too. i would also concur that it must be oil, > however, this > morning i did something different at startup. i let the glow plug > light go off - > three times - then started the engine and voila, no smoke and easy > smooth startup. > what is this? could it be crusty stuff surrounding the glow plugs? > can i just > replace glow plugs, or could prechambers be crusted up too? perhaps > use techron > strong for several tanks? or maybe redline diesel stuff? anyone else > fixed this > here? john, perhaps you could try this at startup and see if you get > similar > smoke-cease. then you can scope the problem for us > Dan > '81 240D > > ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 12:11:28 -0700 From: "Meister, John" Subject: RE: Activity on this list What richard said... :) I knew there was a good reason, and I still agree.
