Has anyone replaced the clock on a 240D with a tach? My '81 doesn't have a tach (I don't think they were available). I would like find one from a 300D and put it where the clock is now. Is it possible? Earlier this evening I stumbled across a newsgroup message that covered replacing the clock on a diesel VW with a tach from the gas GTI. It was interesting, but didn't look like it would work with the older MB diesels. Anybody have any expertise in this area?? I purchased a 1979 240D in December, and have no idea when the valves were last adjusted. Lately I have noticed that I can't get the car to go over about 62 MPH, when before I could easily get to 70 MPH on the freeway. I'm not burning or losing any oil, and was wondering, since I've put about 12000 miles on the car, would valve adjustment have anything to do with this? I don't think it is fuel starvation, since I cleaned out the fuel tank in January and replaced the fuel tank strainer and fuel filters then. What are some symptoms when the valves need adjustment? TIA, and please reply to rfdillon-at-hal-pc.org. Richard F. Mason" Subject: valve cover gasket, '80 240D hello... I have the new gasket in my possession and would dearly like to lower my car's oil consumption... (btw, i'm still taking suggestions for her name... thank you to those who have contributed). What is a fair price for the seemingly minor procedure of removing the valve cover, junking the old gasket, reseating the new one and screwing it down again? i'd do it myself, were it not for all the throttle mechanics and injector stuff in the way... Will this alone lower my oil consumption (about 1 qt. per 400 mi. right now - i keep a case in the trunk), or should i have them do anything else while they're in there? And the bottom line.... what's a good bottom line? How much should i lay out, reasonably? TIA -- matt ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #12 ********************************
