I think I'm gonna get the back issue that dealt with Diesels, any comments? Also, saw an ad for a Malibu Cassette setup on sale for $109, anyone ever done any business with the outfit? Is the radio ok? It's a Malibu CR67 High-power cassette receiver, list $179... sale, $109... it's on page 105 of the july/august issue. Or should I just find a good stereo CD or cassette locally and wire it in? Any recommendations on stereos on a budget? I may be down in Portland Friday/Saturday, if you can provide some ideas I may pick one up down there... later, john --------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/ Snohomish, Washington USA - where jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ------------------------------------------------------------------ jesus - don't leave life without him... - ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 22:51:20 PDT From: kc7nol-at-juno.com (Daniel A Jacobs) Subject: Re: radios On Wed, 19 Aug 1998 21:53:21 -0700 john writes: >I've been thumbing through the STAR. I just hope they won't charge you an arm & leg for "shipping and handling". There was some very easy to read history about diesel engines in that issue. I'll probably have 3 or 4 hours, will be heading for the AMSOIL warehouse in Tigard. Email me your phone numbers off line. I'm waiting to hear from my wife's friend about how long they want to stay down there. Will have camera... :) Not sure if I'll be in the Benz or the Jeep... IF the gas tank fits in the trunk... :-) I'll post in a few hours and check email before we leave... john --------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/ Snohomish, Washington USA - where jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ------------------------------------------------------------------ '81 Mercedes 300D, '81 Jeep J10(SJ) Pickup, '88 Jeep Wagoneer(xj) - ------------------------------------------------------------------ jesus - don't leave life without him... - ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Aug 1998 19:02:18 -0700 From: john Subject: it fit... Look out Portland... the gas tank and skid plate from a 1978 FULL SIZE Wagoneer fit into the trunk of Fritz... a 1981 Mercedes Benz 300D. Amazing. This Benz is almost as amazing as an FSJ... :) If it only had a lift kit and four wheel drive... :) I was kind of thinking I'd rather drive the little wagoneer down, but since the tank is in the trunk, it's a no-brainer... Greg, I'll swing back up from Canby and meet you over at your work in Beaverton, or depending on timing I may stop by on the way down. (I'd prefer to do that rather than doubling back all over portland...) Can ya email the address? Then after we meet I'll swing down to Tigard to the AMSOIL warehouse, pick up some oil and depending on time swing back over to SE Portland to Edelweiss and get the Deutschland Country Decals, and other goodies... :) So far I'm gonna try and hook up with Brad, Greg & Fred (FSJ), and Matt (xj), seems to me there is a Benzer down there somewhere too... Hope they check their email before tomorrow. Or I remember who it is. (I wish win95 had grep so I could search my files without opening them...) Anyone familiar with the Dalia farm in Canby? BTW, what's Diesel going for down in Oregon? I've only got 240 miles on this tank and if it's cheap enough I'll wait till I get down there to fuel up. :) (Imagine doing THAT in an FSJ. I was lucky to get 200 miles on ONE full tank. :) In fact, when I took Old Blue down there I filled up in Longview... then in Eugene, then in Chehalis... :) I may try to set my cell phone to roam, it's an Airtouch and I think the cost is now fair... 10 years ago I got nailed $16 for about 3 minutes down there... you can try and phone me at 425.290.2777, if you get my pager tomorrow, don't bother as it'll be turned off as soon as I leave Seattle... Hopefully I'll remember how to activate roaming on the cell phone... --------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/ Snohomish, Washington USA - where jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ------------------------------------------------------------------ '81 Mercedes 300D, '81 Jeep J10(SJ) Pickup, '88 Jeep Wagoneer(xj) - ------------------------------------------------------------------ jesus - don't leave life without him... - ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Aug 1998 21:25:21 -0700 From: john Subject: Re: PORTLAND TRIP leaving Snohomish/Seattle about 9am, we'll be down in Portland about noon or so. First stop will be Greg Loxtercamp to drop off the Wagoneer Gas tank, then down to Canby, drop off the "flower children", then maybe stop at that Truck Stop down in Wilsonville - cool stuff in their store, CB antennas, etc... then back up to Tigard - AMSOIL Warehouse, then up to Beaverton to see Whit and his xj/zj projects, then possibly Brad and Fred if we can figure out a time (and I get there phone numbers in email...), then either over to Powell and 17th to Edelweiss or back to Canby, then up to wherever my passengers want to go and then probably the Rheinlander for Schnitzels... I'm missing someone... Matt Whitley? And isn't there a Mercedes guy down south of Portland too??? I'l bring plenty of film. :) It looks like I'll primarily be on the I-5 corridor in SW Portland, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Beaverton, maybe Milwaukee and Clackamas... email asap... I'll stay connected until 8:00am Friday... rolling at 0830... :) heading back out at 930pm to finish waxing fritz... later, john --------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/ Snohomish, Washington USA - where jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ------------------------------------------------------------------ jesus - don't leave life without him... - ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Aug 1998 02:08:38 -0700 From: john Subject: back from portland we're back... saw greg's 79 Wag, pu'd some amsoil, saw whit's very cool fleet of overpowered jeeps... the 350 install in his xj was VERY sanitary, also saw Matt's xj...
