What does it typically cost to have the stock setup fixed, I mean the vacuum central thing? The passenger door locks itself, all the time... a royal pain in the drain... I'm giving some thought to installing an electric lock kit I have, can even add remote controllers to it. I used one on a Jeep once and they worked great. Any thoughts??? thanx, john john meister sr CAD sys admin, Intermec meister-at-intermec.com (425) 356.1663 http://www.intermec.com ( http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john john-at-virtual-cafe.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Sep 1998 16:30:47 -0700 From: David Nelson Subject: digest of the diesel-benz list? How can I switch to a digest version of the diesel-benz list? (Sorry to bother everyone with this.) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Sep 1998 15:52:10 GMT From: gmbeasley-at-mindspring.com (grandma Rosalie (R. Beasley)) Subject: Intermittent non-starting diesel I have an '82 300 D which has an intermittent non-starting problem. It happened the first month I got it and it was because it wasn't charging the battery and the battery went dead. Solved that problem. That was in 1994 Now I have a non-starting problem again. It happens only when the car is well warmed up, and I stop and try to go again very shortly afterwards. At first I thought it was due to the car phone being plugged in. It's not. I get no sound at all, only a click. My husband thought I was turning the key too far. I'm not. July 5, 1998, drove from Baltimore to Annapolis. Stopped in Annapolis for about 10-15 minutes. When I came out, the car would only click - wouldn't start. Walked to a pay phone, bought a lunch sandwich and walked back - still wouldn't start. When my husband got there that evening, it started fine. The next incident was August 4th. In between these two incidents I made at least 35 trips of various lengths. On August 4th, I drove from Baltimore to Washington DC, and stopped to make a phone call. Again the car would not start. Two hours later when I came back, it started fine. I drove home, shut it off and tried to start it again. It wouldn't start. I tried it about 5 minutes later and it started fine. This last incident was yesterday Sept 17th. In between this incident and the last one I made at least 45 trips or trip segments ranging from 1 mile to 180 miles, and stopping various lengths of time between segments. This time I drove from Laurel MD to Linthicum MD (about 18 miles) and stopped to get a paper and when I got back in the car - nothing. Since I was only 2 miles from home, I called my husband. By the time I got back to the car after the call it would start. I drove home, and met him coming to get me. After I shut it off, I tried it and it was dead. My husband tested the battery and it was fine. The attachments to the battery were fine and current was flowing. He tried it with his key. No dice. We tried it in neutral. No dice. After a little while, it started again. I don't think it can be a ground, because the car is sitting still in between times. The first apt I could get was on Mon the 28th. I'd like to have something to tell him by then. I just don't know what it is. grandma Rosalie ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #25 ********************************
