I'm looking for a nice smooth, quiet ride and durability to go with that of the car. Thanks! My idea of perfect is one or two owners, COMPLETE maintenance records, no significant accidents, attractive color combination, leather/sunroof/original alloys and outstanding cosmetic condition. I'd be willing to pay a premium price for the right car. The general consensus is Michelin. I'm probably going to get the MXV4's. Other options have been discussed on the list earlier this year and probably out on the archives. My second choice is Discount Tire's Silver Edition Arizonian. I had a set on my Olds Diesel and they did superbly. Also cost a lot less. Made by Kelly Springfield. john At 10:31 PM 10/29/98 -0500, Paul A. I should have specified where I am looking/limited to. I'm located in Virginia. My radius of interest for the perfect car is limited to the mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Thanks Again! I'd look for maintenance records and have a mechanic check it out if you weren't mechanical. Watch for blue smoke, or any smoke really. Does it idle smooth? Does it start when cold from overnight? A/C work? Tranny shift properly? A tranny can run about $2,600 to rebuild. happy shopping, john - ---------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com Jesus - don't leave life without him... http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john - --------------------------------------------------- Mercedes Benz Diesels, FullSizeJeeps and xj's... found on http://www.digest.net and http://www.wagoneers.com - ---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Oct 1998 09:51:09 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: 300D it's possible that they increased the compression ratio in later models, even without the turbo. That would account for the variation in cc's. I got that data from Nitske's book on MB Production Models 46-95, in books like that there is often minor mistakes. I'm running across problems like this in a Jeep book I'm working on. All it means is I have to do more research to find out where the error is and attempt to figure out who is correct. :) I found a Cherokee back east with a Turbo Diesel, like the one I had, only with an Automatic Trans... Fritz may be put up for adoption if the price is right. I'll fly back to the east coast on the Christmas break and drive the Turbo Diesel back out here. :) I really like Fritz, but the Cherokee is faster, and gets better mileage... :) I'll then keep my eyes open for another 123 body 300 Turbo, or start looking for a 190D with that little Diesel. My little wagoneer has over 186,000 miles and things are starting to come apart. Have a fuel injector leaking need to swap out today... :) Also have to change Fritz's fuel filters, when he gets warmed up and I stop for a few minutes then restart he has no power... My guess is sediment gets up into the fuel filter and clogs things...
