Guess he got in because my seatbelt was hanging out the door and I didn't close the door all the way. He would have been too fat to crawl in (or out) any of the openings I've seen in the firewall or trunk area... :) john ======================================================= john meister sr CAD sys admin, Intermec meister-at-intermec.com (425) 356.1663 http://www.intermec.com ( http://www.wagoneers.com/ john-at-wagoneers.com ) ======================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 12:08:04 -0500 From: "Jeff/Laura Domogala" Subject: RE: life in the country > BUT a MOUSE IN MY MERCEDES????!!!!! John, Funny that you should mention the mouse in the car... I've been trying to trap one for a couple of days now in my '82 240D... Finally got 'em this morning. He was feasting on my supply of sunflower seeds. He would drag them up above the covers below the dash. I removed one of them and what a mess there was. He had a nice little nest he made by shredding the insulation glued onto the panel and there was a ton of sunflower shells there. He was also in the ducts as well. I would turn on the heater blower and would get all kinds of garbage kicking up in there. Well, I guess it's time to clear the garage and get the car back in there at night. I just can't figure out how he was getting into the car... I worry about Nimrod (my 6 toed cat) getting nailed with one of those old metal bar ones. I've caught half a dozen mice on the shelves in my carport with this plastic one, and it's safe enough that it doesn't even bruise your fingers if you stick them into it... :) But it gets the mouse for sure... I've also used the live traps, they work quite well too, if you're not wanting to do the furry little rodents in. You can just relocate them to your neighbor's BMW or Toyota... :) john ======================================================= john meister sr CAD sys admin, Intermec meister-at-intermec.com (425) 356.1663 http://www.intermec.com ( http://www.wagoneers.com/ john-at-wagoneers.com ) ======================================================= - -----Original Message----- From: Jeff/Laura Domogala [mailto:domogala-at-bit-net.com] Sent: Monday, November 30, 1998 9:08 AM To: Meister, John; diesel-benz-at-digest.net Subject: RE: life in the country > BUT a MOUSE IN MY MERCEDES????!!!!! I've had a mouse infestation in my headliner...They spent a very comfortable winter there one year. You would be amazed at what they can squeeze thru. Another mouse made a home in a spare tire I kept in my basement. Starved to death when he grew too large to fit thru the lug holes. I found him stuck half in/half out, totally fossilized. His cozy nest was just inches below him. Sad. Just >wondering:) Paula > THe problems I've been finding seem to relate to contacts on switches and connectors. It seems that German cars are so efficently designed that there is hardly any slack in the wiring. Combine that with connectors that are technologically antiquated for cars twice their age that little problems sort of show up. I've found that spraying AMSOIL MP into switches and contacts help. I've also used Electrical Contact Cleaner, but the MP seems to penetrate better. I spent the first few weeks of ownership with my drivers side door ripped apart. Made lots of friends at Benz Friends in Seattle... Turns out after a grueling 4 hour learning experience in Teutonic power window replacement that the problem all along was the little switch in the console... I think I still have scabs on my arm, and I did the reinstall back in August... :) The cruise control along with the window switches earned my 81 Benz the name Fritz. I took the cruise control apart and reflowed all the solder connections. Now it works reasonably well. I'm still very tempted to replace all the components with tighter tolerance parts, it still seems to have a very large hysteresis. (in English, the danged thing varies too much...) I started the Diesel-Benz list on digest.net so others could meet and swap info. The list is pretty quiet though, unlike the XJ and FSJ lists that I started much earlier. I'm working on a book on Jeeps right now, well, right now I'm answering email, but in a few minutes... :) Anyways, check out the list and see if you can't stir the folks into action, or at least discussion... :) I'm still putting off tearing into the console to replace the silly light that feeds all the fiber optics... I think I'd rather swap a transmission out of one of my Jeeps... :) john ------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com - http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... ------------------------------------------------- http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/MBZ-DSL/diesel-benz-list.html (81 300D) http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/JEEP/FSJ-list.html (81 J10) http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/JEEP/XJ-list.html (88 xj wagoneer) ------------------------------------------------- jesus, don't leave life without him... ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 00:59:34 -0600 (CST) From: "M. Used a needlenose plier to pull the retainer clip (tiny) on the hinge, 10mm or 11mm socket on an air wrench to back the hinge bolts out ALMOST all the way, a hammer to tap out the pin which holds the control arm (which itself governs how far the door can open), and backed the bolts all the way out. Vacuum actuator and lines are a headache, of course, but the electrical connections are easy and the only help required is a strong friend to hold the door at approx. the right height to re-hang it while you finesse the fit with the socket wrench. Dad and I did it on four doors in an afternoon. (note -- this all refers to the 123 sedan, '80 & the '82 parts car) Anyway, point being... it's easier to get the window regulator out when the door is laying down, & less risk of breaking the pane as it slides on the rollers. _____________________________ Matthew J.
