The other irritating thing with JC Whitney is that they don't have a toll free number, and not a heck of a lot of Benz stuff anyways, but for my older Jeeps they do have a few items... later john At 03:03 AM 12/18/98 -0800, Jon Filina wrote: >Big John wrote: >> >> just got my impco catalog for the 123 Body style... cool. >> http://www.performanceproducts.com catalog #21m series 123 > >I've been making do with the Haynes W123 manual until I >order the MB ones. And Fritz lit off without a problem. I've noticed that if I wait for that clunking sound in the firewall to happen after the light goes out that he'll usually light off. This morning he turned over but didn't catch. So I ran the plugs again, and he kicked off right after the light went out. :-) By the thermometer in my shop it's about 17 degrees... NO heaters of any kind, open carport. Running AMSOIL 15W40 Marine Grade Synthethic Diesel oil. My last tank of fuel from the cardlock was winterized, but the Texacos and Shells here don't winterize, but I usually add in AMSOIL Diesel fuel concentrate and Cetane Boost. So, with this being about as cold as it gets here I guess there is no reason to spend money on an engine heater... Now, if I could just get the heater and vacuum system to work properly... ;) john ------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com - http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://www.wagoneers.com Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... ------------------------------------------------- http://www.digest.net/diesel-benz/ (81 300D) ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Dec 1998 07:24:34 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: vacuum testers JC Whitney has them on sale, the MityVac, for $49.95, however, they want $11.35 to ship it to the west coast... of course IMPCO, just looking, gets $10 for shipping, BUT, they have a toll free number... It took me about 30 min to diagnose the leak. I think the vacuum system might be easier to work on than a comparable electrical system. - -Ross ps. At first we'd thought we'd been shot. There was a loud explosion and glass flying! The police looked at the damage and said it was a rock. When I got home I did find rock material. It must have been a big rock though... I don't think this was a rock tossed up by a tire either. I wasn't thinking when it happened or I would have turned around and gotten the guy's license number in the truck that passed by when it happened. Our guess is that someone lobbed a rock out as they passed by, for a combined impact of about 50 mph... The police figure it fell out of the back of the truck, seems it's pretty common for stuff to fall out of the back of trucks around here... One motorcyclist was killed when a tarp blew off the back of a truck on I-5, wrapped around the cyclist, knocking him off the bike. He then got run over about 3 or 4 times... There is glass all over the inside of the car too. I'm happy we didn't have a European spec windshield... I would have been hit with the rock. European windshields are designed to shatter into little pieces like our side windows do... They do this to protect pedestrians. Remember this if you go to European and drive a car. You catch a rock on the highway and it's coming in along with the windshield! I know more than one person that got a major surprise on the autobahn when the windshield got broken and disintegrated into the car... anyways, I'm bummed, major hassle, deductible... would have preferred that it happened to my Jeep, it NEEDS a windshield... Fritz's glass is, er, was perfect... Oh well, the windshield was getting dirty any ways... :) rock 1, Fritz 0 later, john - ---------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com Jeeps don't rust in Snohomish, WA, they mold... ------------ http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/saved.html Jesus - don't leave life without him... - ---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Dec 1998 11:30:28 -0800 From: john Subject: introductions We've had several new subscribers in the last few days, we should probably go through some intro's again. After moving the FSJ and XJ lists to digest.net I started the Diesel-Benz list. Richard is the server owner and graciously provides us the service and space for the archives.
