Don't know how, but I finally fixed the vacuum problems. The engine shuts off on command, the heater blows out the proper ports, the locks lock and unlock, the transmission shifts... I can't believe it. Oh yeah, and the cruise controls "works". I think I'm going to reengineer it though, man it sure has a lot of hysteresis. Will set it at 60 and it'll be up to 70, then it'll be down to 55... :) The radio works. The IPF headlights work so well I don't even need the fog lights to help see in the rain. The washer squirters work! I fixed the dash lights, didn't have to take the console out!!! The radio slides in and out (not sure if it's supposed to, but it does) so I was able to reach up inside and found the fiberoptic bulb. Then I popped the wood off the front of the heater control part and found 4 screws. 2 held the controls, the other 2 held the plastic piece to the dash/console. pushed the controls back in and worked the center plastic piece out, voila, access to all the lights. All 4 in the heater control unit were out too. Ran up to the parts store, bought the last 4 type 74 bulbs they had, came home in the pouring rain, installed 'em. Buttoned everything up and drove it into town for a Diesel / Grocery run. We're almost there! BTW, it seems to light off even before the glow plug light goes off, which tells me that the battery was the reason why I had to wait longer before. Only two things are coming up as issues: 1) it pulls to the left when braking. haven't done the front brakes yet. and 2) what is that whistling sound when I have the heater on hi/low(2nd button from the left) ???? I can hardly wait to get the Michelin MXV4's... just waiting for the bucks... meanwhile riding around on studded snows in 40 and 50 degree rain... :) hope all is well with your benz, later, john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html jesus, don't leave life without him, please! Any possibility of getting a MPG to liters/100 km? :) Also, looking forward to the kitchen units already suggested. :) It always befuddles me when the wife sends me to the store to get a "cup" of sour cream! I mean, they sell that stuff in pints, not cups!!!! :) Worldwide car nuts sometimes have trouble expressing themselves. :) This program will come in handy for the FSJ and XJ lists as well. Eddie, note the Imperial Gallons to US Gallons conversion feature, eh?! :) I put your latest version up on my webserver: http://www.wagoneers.com/pages/FTP-goodies/convert.zip (also put convert402.exe up there, the earlier version...) fwiw, this page was broken:http//www.joshmadison.com/software/convert/standards.htm error:The requested URL /software/josh.css was not found on this server. thanx! john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html jesus, don't leave life without him, please! It's definetly fuel related. Pump is dialed up a bit too much. Too much fuel is being delivered. Just a hunch based on previous experiences with playing around with pumps. :) (Rooser and Bosch) >Just spoke to the guy who overhauled the pump. There are no return >adjustments in our cars. Especially if you EVER see black smoke. My guess is it's got too much fuel. You should have seen my 240D! Man, there wasn't a mosquito within miles after I passed by... :) The pump was turned way too far up. :) >Me thinks this really is a mechanical thing. Hmmmm..... >>Andrew Andrew, I can't think of one thing in that engine that would cause that to happen EXCEPT fuel or timing. Timing could be off as well, but fuel and timing are so closely related on a Diesel that it's hard to say for sure. Have them through that pump on the bench and check it's out puts, are they all the same? Are they toward the high end of the spec? If so ask him to turn it down a bit. Are the injectors spraying properly? Is the pump set up properly on the car? (timing) It's not mechanical like valves or clutch or tranny... Not unless there's more to the story than I've heard. :) john - ---------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com John 3:16-20 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. 18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 "And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. 20 "For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. - ---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 08:44:42 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: Cruise control hysteresis, etc. I've had the box apart to make it work, resoldered all the connections, noticed low tolerance components, mainly low tolerance resistors.
