I guess working in the semiconductor industry dealing with very sensitive adjustments got me used to the "feel". I've rebuilt carbs, and done delicate work with them on. You need to get the good latex type though... :) make sure they fit. I wear two so if I need to touch something in the car, or my keyboard when I wander in from outside, I can keep stuff clean. Wearing gloves also reduces the injuries to my hands. :) Problem is Diesel and gasoline tends to dissolve them... another reason for wearing two pairs... :) john At 10:49 AM 1/23/99 -0500, David Masinick wrote: >Segue into a "hands clean after diesel oil change" discussion. >I have not been able to find a routine that gets all of the diesel soot and >grime off my hands after working on my car. > >I do the usual tricks of rubbing soap under my nails and applying hand >lotion before I start to work. Mason" Subject: glow woes... Well, Jeff D., it looks like you were right... after a few enjoyable hours of running like it should have (for a while, I had four good glowplugs in), i lost the #4 plug. (By the way, mine are in parallel, so I'm guessing it's okay to do my battery-to-tip test as long as I'm not trying to track minute voltage drops.) So now, on a 30-degree and snowy day, she won't start at all. I've ordered two new plugs, but I'm starting to think you were right, Jeff, that the glow module is fritzed (sorry John) and keeping the plugs hot longer than it ought. I wonder if you could email me directly or cc: a breakdown of your push-button glowing method... looks like I'll have to bypass the timer on the glow relay somehow. :( "She canna take much more of this, Captain..." - -- mjm _____________________________ Matthew J. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through what was left of his hair and he decided to open her up. As the needle jumped up to 80 mph, he suddenly saw flashing red and blue lights behind him. "There's no way they can catch a Mercedes," he thought to himself and opened her up further. The needle hit 90, 100.... Then the reality of the situation hit him. "What in hell am I doing?" he thought and pulled over. The cop came up to him, took his license without a word and examined it and the car. "It's been a long day, this is the end of my shift and it's Friday the 13th. I don't feel like more paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go." The guy thinks for a second and says, "Last week my wife ran off with a cop. I was afraid you were trying to give her back!" "Have a nice weekend," said the officer. - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html jesus, don't leave life without him, please!
