I love working on well engineered equipment. :) Also replaced the non-benz lights in the dash - resoldered the heater controls as well. (took pictures of how to get in the console, not the bear I thought it to be... pry off the wood by the heater controls, undo the 4 screws and rotate out the plastic piece... then you can get in to get the lights.) I also replaced the hood release thing, tired of the coat hanger arrangement... ;) Also made a splint for my cruise cable, the shop broke it last time they worked on fritz... $26 cable... Also RTV'd up some of the looser vacuum lines. The hardest part of the day was replacing the bushing on the transmission shifter... man, what a wrestling contest... I mean just getting underneath the thing... I had the thing jacked up as high as my floor jack would go, the car was up there with both passenger side tires in the air and I still couldn't use the creeper, had to lay on the wet ground on a board... The wind has been howling here, really strong and unusual... anyway, once I got underneath (I'm not the big either, just spoiled by working on "lifted" Jeeps... :) then I had to wrestle that little bushing into the lever. I put two of the alloy wheels on and took off the studded snows. Going in to get the Michelin MXV4s on Monday!!! :) Will put the studded snows under the house... We'll probably get one more snow this year, don't know when, but the latest I've seen it snow here is the middle of March. If it snows I'll drive the little wagoneer... :) rebuilding my laptop now... Loading Linux and NT on a new hard drive, getting ready for my trip to Milpitas (perl class) in March. Going to fly into reno sat mar 13, pick up my rental car, check out the National Car Museum in Reno, visit with an FSJ friend and drive over to the bay area Sunday afternoon... Anybody in the bay area? Want to get together for lunch near Milpitas? Will be flying back to Seattle friday mar19 early afternoon. :) Planning on driving Fritz down to Mtn. View June 14th for an HP-UX Internals class... gonna bring the family down, probably drive back up the coast. back to PC repair... john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html jesus, don't leave life without him, please! Mason" Subject: my diesel's knocking... ...should i let it in? Clearly, diesels knock compared to gas engines. But here's the thing -- I brought it in the other day to diagnose a little bit of a fuel leak around injector #2 (after changing leak hoses, removing & reattaching injector pipes, and making sure filters were secured), and he told me that one of the reman'd injectors I'd installed had a tiny crack in the body which was leaking fuel. He "resealed" it, he said, and the leak went away, car ran much better... I ran it out of fuel, so I tanked up on the road at a less-than-brand name station... now is the knocking I'm hearing probably just a result of cheap diesel? (Injector 2 hasn't started leaking again, I'm sure of that...) ______________________________________________ Matthew J.
