But, here's the funny thing, the hose seems to be just >fine, and how much bypass should there really be anyway? My diesel experience is limited to VW & my current '81 240D. When it comes to injectors and bypass tubes, they are similar. While the engine is running, where does the fuel leak seem to be coming from? If it looks like it's originating from the bypass tubes, and is nowhere near the injector (either the base of the top, the hose is probably bad. They should be rubber with a braided fiber cover. The rubber will crack over time and the fuel will seep out. Even if it's a bad crack, which results in larger amounts of fuel coming out, the hose may look ok. On my VW's, I got about 3 feet of hose from a parts store, cut it to length for each tube(using the original as a guide) and replaced all of them. Less than $10. I'd also do the nipple at the end of #4, as that may be about to go. On my MB, I went to MB and paid about $15 for the same hose I had purchased for the VW diesels. You'll probably have to bleed the system, using the primer pump next to the fuel pre-filter(loosen the big nut on the primary fuel filter and re-tighten it when all the air is out), before you start it. On my VW's, I had to pump the "gas" pedal until she started, then crack the nut on the #4 injector to bleed the air out. The engine idled really rough until all the air was out of the lines. The MB is so much easier...
