I'll have to send the before and after pix to someone with a scanner and a website... the deer crumpled my right front corner, and I had to junk the hood, the light assemblies, the grille, the radiator and the a/c condenser... oh yeah, the a/c compressor and low pressure cutoff switch as well. Anyway, did the body work ourselves, recharged the freon (shh!) and scavenged the parts car (hence the importance of the AFTER picture!) The Benz took the shot like a trooper, and so did the deer... as far as i could tell, she stood up and took off. I hope she made it... -- mjm ______________________________________________ Matthew J. Dad agreed :) This was a VW Rabbit diesel. It drove satisfactory but there must have been a hole in it somewhere because a couple of months after I bought it a puddle of water appeared under the driver's seat. We've had a wet autumn in Nederland. When it started freezing in November the little VW was icing up more on the inside than outside and began to have big trouble starting as well. Lots of heavy smoke in the morning after cranking it for two minutes or more... I was ready to test it's crashworthiness, but luckily my brother was in desperate need of a cheap car and we came to an agreement. At that time the 300TD (Hermann) came in to my life and sorry, I didn't have an opportunity to crash test him yet. I will let you know when it happens, though... :) Pieter Noorlander 83 300TD (Hermann) - -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: john Aan: diesel-benz-at-digest.net Datum: woensdag 17 februari 1999 8:44 Onderwerp: crashworthiness >I'm curious about how our Benz hold up in accidents. I was a passenger in a '93 560SEL. We got hit just forward of broadside by a full size Jimmy going 70MPH. We were going 45-50 when the person driving the 560 blew through a stop sign in front of the Jimmy. We got hit once in the left front side and spun around and hit again in the rear. The only window that broke was the rear window when the trunk lid was shoved up through it. Both doors could be opened without major machinery. The police and other emergency personnel all commented on the severity of the damage to the cars, and yet the injuries to the passengers was (relatively) minor. I have attributed much of my recovery to the car. It absorbed an incredible amount of force. Both cars were totaled. john wrote: > I'm curious about how our Benz hold up in accidents. He said he bought it after an episode when he was working in the E.R. one night. It seems two fellows were brought in from a bad wreck,One DOA, one with contusions and a couple of broken bones. "What were they driving?" he asks the trooper. The DOA was driving a 3/4 ton pick up,Other guy? Mercedes Benz. This Doc says he bought this one soon after. We do a lot of highway driving and it sure makes you feel secure having a couple of tons of good steel wrapped around you. The doors close like bank vaults!
