Is the 450 going to be a > real compex bastard to maintain? Is it strangled by emmisions? A friend has one, a '79 now with 92k miles. Big, brash and goes like wicked hell. Has had very few problems with it, and the most common maintenance items (water pump, brakes) are similar to any other V-8 Benz. If you're looking for economy, look elsewhere. Generally 10-12 MPG, I believe that it only has a 3-speed auto to cope with the torque; something about the 4-speed didn't cut it. One funky item is a piece of hose about 1" and, if it goes bad, you've gotta remove the head to replace it!! One problem is that many people think the 6.9 automatically makes it ultra-collectible and price them to match. Heard of one that, rusted out and with 130k miles where the owner was asking 15k for the thing. When told he'd be lucky to get 3-4k for someone willing to overpay for a tired engine- the owner had a fit and kicked him out. Have heard of prices 5-10k for nice, well-maintained cars. Hydro suspensions give it a 'floaty' ride, but it can still be driven fast and feel composed. It's a funny sensation given the amount of lean typically seen and the size of the car. Good luck- Tony Wirtel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Feb 1999 18:27:15 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: 450SELs I had a 74 450SEL... only the 4.5L v-8... expensive to keep running and thirsty... as thirsty as my bigger jeeps. Very fast, so I can imagine what a 6.9L would be like. :) I enjoyed coming up the one hill at 100mph with the sunroof open... reminded me of being in Europe... :) the exhaust manifolds alone on the 4.5L were almost worth more than the entire car... over $600 a side! My allergist bought it, drove it until the exhaust system fell out of it... :) He's offered it back to me a few times... it's sitting under a tarp on a nearby mountain. :) It was harder to work on than my Diesels, not sure why really... more junk under the hood I guess... more complex too... Ya gotta love our Diesels... :) Especially since it's highly unlikely that I'll get in trouble for forgetting that I'm not on the Autobahn anymore. :) john At 05:04 PM 2/23/99 +0000, Tony Wirtel wrote: >> Subject: 450 SEL 6.9 >> >> Does anyone know about/own one of these? For any David Lynch fans out there, you may have noticed Mr. Eddie/Dick Laurant drives a black 6.9 in "The Lost Highway". Now if he said, "Here at Hatch we do a complete service on every car we sell. In fact on this car we installed a brand new factory engine and trans..." then maybe I could understand. But he didn't. In fact, he said NOTHING about the condition of the car. john wrote: > At 03:46 PM 2/23/99 -0500, Chris Klass wrote: > >Oh, I called Hatch and Sons. Here's hoping that forwarding this doesn't make me a Spammer, by extension...I never thought I'd see a spammer disguising his spam as anti-spam... don't fall for it! ___________________________________-- Message-ID: Dear Internet User: To start let me say this, I'm tired of the porn email in my email box and all that click here crap. I'm a published author in the United States, Germany and Japan. I've spend seven hours or more a day for the last two months researching the topic of Spam on the Internet. I've learned a lot about SMTP blocking, reporting Spam, and blocking your email account from being spammed. In this time I have practiced everything I have learned in blocking this crap mail they call professional advertising and in the last few weeks I have not yet received one piece of Spam. I wrote a full report on this process I have developed and did some research on how to get this information around to the right people. I've contacted many spammers and did some price research, what better way to find the Spam haters then to find the spammer that is spamming them. I've talked to many well known bulkers as they like to be called and we made the agreement that I will get to advertise to there list in return for a profit break. I'm forced to sell my report for the reason to pay the advertising fee and keep me alive but on the bright side you will learn to fight against the horrible porn mail in your email box. Please join me in fighting this horrible advertising method that has been on the Internet for years. Remember, "Together we stand, divided we fall."
