I was starting to think that the list had shut down... For all you 240D, with manual transmissions, owners out there: At what point is your clutch engaging? I recently had mine replaced....hydraulics and all! At what point is your clutch engaging? 1/2 pedal travel (towards the driver), 3/4?? ============= 'bout 1 1/2 - 2" from the floor - or at least it will, when I get enuf money saved up for a -at-#$%$#-at- thermostat! $35!!! From George Mele, Crownsville, MD Just signed on to Digest so these may be questions that have been asked before. Bear with me. 1. A local independant mechanic with a lot of experience with W123 cars tells me that he has observed a very high problem rate with left rear trailing arms for early-'80's cars. Says they rust to the point of fracture--believes that problem stems from manufacturing defect. Can anyone amplify on this? I have eyeballed mine (82 240) and see no apparent problem. 2. Injection pump oil plug/reservoir--Am unclear about inspection plug on side of injector body. Every oil change, I dutifully take out plug and check oil level--always seems a little down, so I add some with an oil can--couple ounces. Another diesel owner says that this is unnecessary--that there is a passage from oil pan and sump of injector fills automatically with engine oil. He cites as evidence that if you overfill pump,it will seep into oil pan!!!!! Where is the truth here?? 3. Brake pads. Have heard of existence of OEM brake pads that are harder than normal US equipment--dont dust as bad, and less fade. Reportedly called "MBZ Alipine..."pads. Local Merc dealer hasn't a clue! Any info? Part numbers? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1999 09:38:46 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: Newbie questions? george, you could check with IMPCO/Performance on some of those parts and issues, especially the brake pads. john At 09:10 AM 3/9/99 -0500, Janet A. You mentioned that the 2.2 w/ an auto was a little busy on the highway above 65.
