Why, you ask? The '85 has a 2500 rpm-stall torque converter, and the motor doesn't make boost until 2100. '82-'84 converters are 1800-ish stall, therefore you wait for the boost. Because of crankshaft to converter interface differences, you cannot put the '85 converter on earlier engines. My next car will be an '85 300D or '85 300SD. The car is in great mech. shape, the interior is excellent, and the body is decent. But what i love about this car, aside from the way it does everything, is how cheap it is to run. So i am considering using the POR-15 floorboard replacement kit instead of having new/used panels welded in. Anyone every try this? My wife made the comment today that she thought it would be really stupid to sell the benz... :) She grew attached to it the week I was away... When asked if I could sell the Jeep and buy a project Jeep and another Benz, she said no, that I shouldn't sell the little wagoneer either... rats, check mate... :) john At 08:57 PM 3/20/99 -0500, David Masinick wrote: >John, > >I have no idea about whether the turbo-diesel will go into your car >without any "ah-shucks", but I have learned that the hot setup is the >'85 motor and trans.
