RULE #1 (made clear in the manual... repeatedly... :) mark everything as everything is balanced. Otherwise, looks to my eyes like a Single Cardan joint, and the way it looks it should be pretty easy to change as you may only have to press in one set of caps. You can do it with a C-clamp, or take the entire driveshaft down to any parts store (like napa or car quest) that does machine work and have them press on the new u-joint. I've never wimped out and done it right... I usually sit there in the gravel with a C-clamp and a handful of old sockets, bearings and washers... :) now come out of the corner and fix yer benz... (btw, I did a bad thing to my (wife's) jeep... seems that the rear brake pads are actually NOT universal... so I have to figure out why they all look the same... :) I hate drum brakes, may end up doing the disc conversion on that dana 35... :) john At 08:36 PM 3/31/99 +0000, Tony Wirtel wrote: >Was replacing the center bearing on my 300TD and decided to help the center >bearing out with a mallet. > >Didn't even hit it hard, but the U-joint now seems to be binding. Your best bet is to get a Performance Products catalog for the 123 series, inside that catalog they have pretty decent vacuum diagrams and some good prices on parts. I have some of the diagrams for the 300d on my site, might help... :) http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz john At 04:25 PM 4/1/99 GMT, B F Rollins II wrote: >Hi all, > New guy here. I lived in Frankfurt am Main from 75 until July 77, then came back in January 1978 and stayed in Darmstadt until January 1981. I was stationed there with the US Army. (Hope my German wasn't too offensive... it's pretty rusty these days... :-) I loved it over there. It is a beautiful country. Someday I would love to get back over there. I miss the Autobahns. :-) The country roads were also very nice. I had a couple of BMW's, VW's and Mustangs while I was there. Welcome to the Diesel-Benz list. BTW, what is the price of Diesel in Deutschland these days? It was about $1.15 / gallon here, but because of OPEC and a refinery fire down in California it's shot up to 1.23 to as much as 1.39 / gallon. (3.785 liters per gallon). My 81 300D is getting around 24 mpg right now... My 88 Jeep xj wagoneer limited is getting around 16 mpg... I'm heading over to the other side of the mountains to Eastern Washington tomorrow to pick up a 1972 Jeep Commando! Gonna drive my Jeep over to get it in case there is snow in the Snoqualmie pass. ttyl, john meister At 03:00 AM 4/4/99 +0200, you wrote: >Hi John, > >I have included your diesel-list to the _Mailing Lists_ section >of my links page at >http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/9323/links.htm >I myself have just subscribed to the digest form of the list - >I own a 1982 240D. > >> Really enjoy your page, you've put a lot of work into it.
