Sold the Commando to the first guy that looked at it. :) Next on my project list, a Wagoneer? Gotta make a few phone calls... :) I'm also gonna do the picket fence and concrete right away before I find another Zeiss lens or something... :) Hey, on my 300D is it the electronic assy unit causing the heater-a/c to misbehave? I've already replaced the mono valve... I'm pretty sure it's the electronic assembly but want to hear other options before spending $270 on a new control unit... Anybody know of a rear bumper setup for an Xj that will hold the high lift jack? I'd also like to rear mount the spare (30" tire only). I'm thinking of building a custom swing down bumper setup that will hold the high lift inside... Gotta do it before June when we may be driving it down to the bay area... I want to see out the rear window too... I know, I want my cake and eat it too. :) john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html jesus, don't leave life without him, please! John, For your climate controls, you want to contact George Murphy at Performance Analysis. He sells all sorts of climate control stuff. He sells pushbutton controls units (rebuilt) for $149. He is active in MBCA, and has a great reputation. email George_Murphy-at-compuserve.com Phone (423) 482-9175 M-F 9-5 Eastern time. No financial involvement for me. I just have bought parts from him, and read good things written by others. I just got email from someone back east with a lower cost repair than I'd heard on the Diesel Benz list, will give the guy a jingle tomorrow and let you know. BTW, German cars tend to eat plugs. :) My BMW 2500 was like that as well... not even 10,000 km on it and it needed plugs, ran like a new car afterwards. :) I'm becoming more and more aware of what the problems may be on our Benz's. I'm thinking of installing some electronic filters, aka, capacitors and transzorbs, or even MOV's to help reduce electrical spikes. I don't have my oscilloscope any more so I can't analyze what's going on... My guess is my radio and heater controls wig out everynow and then because of bad grounds or power spikes, same guess with your anti-theft system. Try placing some noise filters from Radio Shack in line with the power on both the memory and the main power. Make sure you have a good ground. It's just a hunch, but after troubleshooting problems like this for strategic communications and on airplane systems I think I'm not too far off... We need good clean ground connections and filter caps and inline noise filters. The ultimate setup would be a pi filter across each power input. That's a cap on either side of an inline inductor. I may go one step further and use some transzorbs if I have them left over from airplane design days... I guess one could use Zener diodes to do the same thing. I'd recommend using 18v Zeners to help clamp the voltage without creating a load. :) When I get the replacement element I'll install something simple and post the schematics and parts list. :) The Commando rode off into the sunset just a few minutes ago... :) IT was comical... it's pretty cold blooded... it took the guy three times to get out of the driveway with it... He's yelling out the window laughing... third times the charm... :) He's gonna enjoy it, it went to a good home. :) ttyl, john At 08:51 PM 5/4/99 -0400, Michael Baxter wrote: >john writes: > >>> Hey, on my 300D is it the electronic assy unit causing the heater-a/c >to misbehave? Coming back from buying a 78 Wagoneer tonight I was coming down the road in the little wagoneer and this oncoming car seemed to have it's high beams on... ..so I flashed my high beams and was giving some thought to turning on the other lights on the front bumper... but didn't... As I got closer, the high beams still seemed to be on, but the car wasn't moving... hmmm.... So about this time my headlights light up a pair of Canadian geese and a whole herd of little geeslings, goslings, or whatever, that were about to become stains on Machias Road... :) I dropped the anchor from 45 mph and felt 'em lock up... Anyone with a Jeep XJ knows that is a rare occurrence on dry road with 30x9.5's!!! I'm pretty sure there was some tire smoke as well... I'm used to the Benz being able to stop fast... but not the little wagoneer! I guess I fixed the brakes the last time. :) I managed to stop within about five feet from them... and they decided to move over to the other lane... :) The cars were still sitting there waiting for them when they disappeared in my mirror... :) I wish the gal had dimmed her lights or put her four ways on our just put her parking lights on... I was so blinded by her lights I almost wiped out several dirty birds... (I'm sure there are some from the NW that might regret that I missed 'em... the parking lot at work is covered with goose crap...) The "new" wagoneer will probably come home Saturday. (360, 4v, dual tanks, cruise, tilt, a/c, rear tire carrier, yellow, alloy slotted rims, etc. needs a few dozen things done... :) FWIW, the fence pickets arrive Saturday too... and if I stay away from the camera store I might even get that concrete in the carport... :) BTW, I got an email from another parts source for the heater controls for Fritz for about $129!!! I will check it out. :) Sounds a lot better than $250 plus through IMPCO... :) That guy someone recommended for $139 is out of the office until next week... lots to do... john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html jesus, don't leave life without him, please!
