NOTHING about Executive Order # D-421. Note the statement on the fuel miser page says "permitted for installation". That's right, and you can also add a jack-in-the-box styrofoam head to your antenna too. :) Makes sense, it doesn't do anything, does not affect emissions, so why wouldn't the CARB permit it? This comes under what I'd consider deceptive trade practices, although probably no laws are being broken, and they know it. look for yourself, see if you can find the executive order: http://www.arb.ca/gov/bluebook/bb99/BP/toc99.htm this might actually apply to the fuel miser marketing scheme: http://www.arb.ca/gov/bluebook/bb99/BP/17500.htm Stuff like this is frustrating... you really want to believe it's true, and so many people spend money on it trying... I wish it were true, but my instincts tell me otherwise... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com **** Snohomish, Washington USA don't leave life without jesus, please... http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john http://wagoneers.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Jun 1999 18:39:18 -0500 (CDT) From: matthew j mason Subject: mercedes prints -- no diesel content anyone know where to find nice looking mercedes-themed artwork (photos, lithos, prints of paintings) on the Web or elsewhere, without breaking the bank? BTW: We also had these things offered for gasoline engines in the beginning to mid-eighties here in Germany, I remember that clearly. One interesting thing with diesel engines is that I just some days ago read that the modern diesel engines (in contrast to old ones like the OM616 etc. in my 1982 240D) have much smaller soot particles which more easily penetrate the lungs, thus being more dangerous in the last consequence. Greetings to all from sunny and warm Germany Juergen 1982 240D OM616 with very few soot from the exhaust ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Jun 1999 20:49:44 -0700 From: john Subject: the chart Looks like the data provided from SAE indicates that James is correct. Diesels do emit more NOx than a comparable gasoline engine. 0.6 (Diesel) vs. 0.15 (gasoline) grams / kilometer http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john/MBZ-DSL/diesel-emissions.jpg http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/diesel-emissions.jpg However, we should note that the amounts emitted are less than 1 gram / kilometer! And that Hydrocarbons and Carbon Monoxide are much higher with the gas engine... Of course particulates are signficantly higher and there has been a lot of health concern about that recently. The study does not mention what the sulfur content of the fuel used was... and that plays a major part in the particulates... The data that I had from the early 80's was quite a bit different, I've cited that report previously, and it's on my website. It appears that much work has been done to reduce emissions in both engines since then. :) john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john 77 Wagoneer (SJ) - 81 MB 300D (123) - 88 wagoneer (xj) jesus, don't leave life without him, please!
