I am going to have my entire A/C replaced (compressor, dryer, switches, hoses, etc). I guess this means I will keep it. I found a guy I can seem to trust, Udo's in Tenafly, NJ. Whole deal for $800. (The last place I went, Ramsey Motors ripped me off really bad.) I will let you know how it goes. - -- Chris Klass New Jersey 82 300 SD 84 Volvo 245 98 Monster 750 - Pure Heaven! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 08:27:27 -0700 From: Wolfgang Henke Subject: Re: 82 300SD - A/C Chris Klass wrote: > Well, I decieded to just bite the bullet. I paid about a grand for it four years ago in a W126 ('81 500SEL). The A/C is so cold now that I sometimes think it's too cold. With a W126 of this age it's also a good idea to check the rubber diaphragams in the climate controllers. Replacing/renewing them made a big difference in mine. I'd assume that most older W126 have a few leaking ones and the owners don't know it. Richard -- Yeah, that happened to me last summer... we were planning to replace the doors with ones from a parts car (they had significantly less rust, fewer dings, etc). We salvaged a vacuum actuator from one of the old doors to use in one of the newer ones, and we managed to get everything almost all back together -- it figures, on the fourth door we get lazy and forget to test everything early on -- that while the window motor was working fine, the pane was off track. Unfortunately it meant taking the interior panel off again, loosening (or removing, i can't remember) the crucial bolt that keeps that spring-loaded window regulator from collapsing into the horizontal, or flat position, and collapsing it just enough to slide the window back on track. Be careful when reaching around inside the door panel -- it might even pay to remove the door and work on it laid down flat in the backyard, or something -- because if that window regulator assembly collapses on your hand unexpectedly, it's liable to take a finger or two with it. Good luck -- Matt ______________________________________________ Matthew J.
