The conversion kit was only $45 or so at the parts store... I figured I only needed about one pound of r12 to make it work again, but that's over $50 and I had to pay someone to install it... :( I used my last can of pre-ban r12 to fix the little wagoneer... :( will let y'all know how it works... It's hot and muggy here today, well into the upper 70's... I've been hiding in the office or the bedroom with the a/c on... :) way too hot for me today... :) john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john 77 Wagoneer (SJ) - 81 MB 300D (123) - 88 wagoneer (xj) jesus, don't leave life without him, please! I was concerned, but once the oil charge went in and I rev'd the motor up it simmered down. Took a drive over to Woodinville and found things to be much cooler than before... with the temperature control setup if the a/c didn't work the heater won the battle and it'd get quite toasty... john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john 77 Wagoneer (SJ) - 81 MB 300D (123) - 88 wagoneer (xj) jesus, don't leave life without him, please! Should I wander down there and take a look? Will it be as nice as my 81 300D? Of course at 44mpg vs. 28mpg if everything works I'm not so sure I'm really gonna care... :) john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john 77 Wagoneer (SJ) - 81 MB 300D (123) - 88 wagoneer (xj) jesus, don't leave life without him, please! From what I have read, MB had many problems with the W201's. The general consensus is that they finally worked the bugs out around '87. I don't remember all the problem areas, but A/C, electrical and transmission ones come to mind. If you are serious, take it to you favorite MB shop for a thorough pre-purchase inspection. The early W201's tarnished MB's reputation and are generally more expensive to work on than our W123's. > Should I wander down there and take a look? Will it be as nice > as my 81 300D? The price looks good. I like the color, but not the transmission. Compared to your '81, it will be, and feel, much smaller. I test drove an '87 190D and liked it, except for the automatic transmission. At the time, I had a '90 VW Jetta. The '87 MB looked similar to the VW (who copied who???) and felt like it was half way between the VW and my '81 240D sizewise.
