The oil of the 200D's, 220D's and later 240D's was cooled only through the oilpan. When I first got the car (1999 E-300TD) with Bose radio, the AM section was almost unusable. I work for a New York AM talk station, so you can imagine I was not happy. By clipping a bunch of those "Split RF-chokes" on all the wires under back seat leading to trunk I reduced the AM hash enough to at least listen to my station (a 50 KW) the next step is to get at wires leading to radio under dash and do the same thing. However I can't figure out how to remove either the ashtray or the storage box directly under the radio to get access to the wires. There must be a way to do that. Do you have the interference when you get out of the city? My guess is it's the urban jungle you live in. AM transmissions are highly suspectible to interference from so many things. Florescent lights, street lights, neon signs, various 2-way radios, ignition sources, power lines... the list goes on and on. First thing to do is determine if proper AM reception for your station (you didn't mention the frequency) where you listen the most is even possible. There are some spectrums that are more susceptible to interference than others. The higher the frequency the shorter the transmitting tower... the lower the frequency the larger the tower... Then there is the issue of harmonics associated with interference... (the odd order harmonics are the ones that cause the problem). So. At this point, what is the frequency of your station? What you'll need to do is get a filter that optimizes that frequency and blocks all others. You may have some success with an amplifier antenna... a good quality one. Like I said, I doubt that your electrical system is the source of the interfernce... You can make sure you have a good ground to the radio chassis, but BE CAREFUL about the MB security system... I've got a friend down in Reno that has major troubles with his Becker, it keeps thinking it's been stolen. :) If the interference is in the vehicle (test by turning the car off...), then identifying what is the source would be the best way of fixing it. You could determine what the interfering frequency is and design a pi-filter for the power and memory leads going into the radio, assuming of course there are actual wires that you can reach... I don't have any experience with the newer benz so I can't help take yours apart... My guess is it's going to be similar to my 81 300D... remove the wood panel, remove the screws holding the heater control, and push the radio out the front... Since you obviously bought this thing new, why isn't the dealer helping you? I'd be all over their service department on this one... :) Have you tried any other similar models in the same area to see if they do it too? Bose is good stuff. Dr. Bose understands filters and I'm sure there is something wrong somewhere for his radio not to work properly... My guess is there is a bad ground somewhere in that car, maybe on the power antenna, maybe on an electric pump or motor or fan or something... This just shouldn't happen in a car of this quality... :) john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-virtual-cafe.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.virtual-cafe.com/~john 77 Wagoneer (SJ) - 81 MB 300D (123) - 88 wagoneer (xj) jesus, don't leave life without him, please!
