Hi All, I was wondering whether there were any good books that might bring someone like me, who's interested in learning enough about the Mercedes Diesel cars, up to speed, so to speak. So I popped over to http://www.amazon.com and did a search for Mercedes, and turned up the following: Illustrated Buyer's Guide : Mercedes-Benz (Motorbooks International Illustrated Buyer's Guide Series) Has anyone seen this book? I'm wondering if it's any good. Only one review had been logged when I looked at it, and it was sufficiently gushy to make me even a little more suspicious than I usually am. I picked up the Haynes manual the other day and have been spending my free moments scanning it and trying to get an idea what I'm up against as regards reliability and maintenance, when/if I take the plunge (I really like the 300TD). Thanks, Quinn Farnes Irvine, California ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jun 1999 13:32:06 -0700 From: Farnes_Quinn Subject: RE: Books for Newbies Like Me? Thanks for the info. Sheesh! 60 dollars for a REAL service manual? I take it they're still available for older (1980s-vintage) cars? I think Toyota's getting something like a hundred and a half these days for their manuals, which tend to be written in a minimalist style. I got the Haynes just because it was cheap and available. When I make up my mind what I want to get, I'll have no problem parting with 60 dollars for a factory manual. Thanks, John. The CD ROM set sounds nice, but I wonder if I'll still have hardware/software 10 years from now that is capable of reading it. I remember it wasn't so long ago that I was pretty impressed with the 140k 5 1/4" floppies on my Apple IIE! I think I'll stick with paper!
