He thought the other day that if I can put a 300D into a 1964 Land Rover Series IIA, he could put one into his 1955 Series I. The Series I has no power brakes and is very light and hence could probably do without the power of the 300D. It also has a more restrictive engine bay. Alos it has a direct linkage clutch, with no hydraulics, beautifully simple! Very well done piece: http://www.msnbc.com/news/286256.asp The Mercedes did very well... wish it came in a Diesel... :) The Jeep didn't do as well as it should have, but did better than the Durango... and the Montero... ouch... Wish they would have had the data for the XJ jeeps... anyone know where they keep all the data on cars too? I know the 123 body Mercedes does very well... nice to know in a place with bad roads and no shoulders... Does anyone know if it's safe/advisable/possible to enlarge the 5 1/4" rear speaker bays to accommodate 6" speakers? I'm wondering if: a) that rear-mounted vacuum reservoir is in the way b) this particular set of round Pioneers will seat correctly. I don't have the car with me, and the manuals I've got are not terribly helpful. If any of you have done it, how did it go? ______________________________________________ Matthew J. I remember discussion of "tightening the steering box"... Any more hints? There's something the Haynes manual calls the "steering damper," which looks fairly easy to remove and replace... but I'm not making the mental connection... could be the lateness of the hour... :) I'll look through the old digests online, but any tips about how to adjust that movement in the wheel would be appreciated. Is it accessible from underneath the left front, or does the steering column need to be accessed from inside? thanks & enjoy the weekend. -- mjm ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #168 *********************************
