Long story short, when the bored the 300 for the 350 they startred seeing things like bent rods, leading to excess oil consumption...BAD NEWS!! Something about 350 diesels...but on the plus side they don't send rods through the pan like some of the GM's did... I've also seen several 350s for sale locally, certaily more than is usual for turnover of a Mercedes model. However, Ive not seen them priced accordingly for an engine replacement/rebuild. Richard Sexton has collected some info, but MB has not considered this a problem, certainly not on the design end. I need a downpipe from a W115 OM617.910 or similar. The one with a twin bore attachement to the exaust manifold (the W123 chassis has a single bore effort I think, but please tell me if there is some way I can get a W123 pipe to work). I also need the part number 617 030 00 05 or 617 030 01 05 These are manual transmission flywheels for the OM617 line of engines when used in the 207/208D line of commercial vans. Failing the flywheel, I would be interested in leads to a manual trans flywheel for a 300D car. I would be interested in any leads on this stuff, preferably in Canada (or US), but anywhere else is fine also. Thanks, Simon Byers. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jul 1999 13:19:49 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: welcome new subscribers welcome new folks! noticed a few new subscribers in the last few days. Feel free to tell us what you have. We're a small list and pretty quiet. :) I've got an 81 300D that I call Fritz... for a variety of reasons... like the fact that he spit out the gear that makes the power window go up and down... and the heater/ac system will freeze or bake you, inversly related to internal temperature needs... :) I've gathered some technical data and pictures and put it up on my server: http://www.wagoneers.com/DieselBenz I'm looking for a 300 Turbo Diesel and AT for my 81 300D, gonna upgrade, that or replace the entire car with a Turbo model... Even thinking about a 300SD... I'm also involved with Jeep Wagoneers and Cherokees (FSJ's and XJ's) and run those lists as well... The photo galleries are Java-driven, and again work fine under IE4+ - holding the mouse over a thumbnail makes it occupy the larger image slot, while clicking on a thumbnail launches a full 900x600 image in a separate browser window. Having said that, Netscape 4 seems to fail to follow the links to any of my gallery pages at all (reporting "page not found"), whereas Explorer finds them without any problem. How odd. I will be putting up a more generic version of the site within the next two weeks to address these issues, and will post a notice on the digest when I have done so. In the meantime, if anyone wants to receive the A-class pictures (as jpegs, gifs or bitmaps), send me an e-mail stating your preferred format and whether you can accept them Zipped.
