The only problem I'm having is Netscape 4.60. It's buggy. I got on the internet with it last nite and NS locked up and really boogered up the file sytem. I'll end up reloading with NS and get 4.51. I've decided to part with my 81 300D so I can get an 80 J10. I'm wondering what the recommended gearing would be to run 33x9.5's? The little wagoneer is running 30x9.5's with 4.10's and is about 3% faster in rpm than stock, meaning I could go a taller tire... However, with the J10 it's got 2.79's and meant to run slower in rpm... would 3.73's be a good blend so I don't lose mileage? Peak torque is around 1600 rpm in the 360 V8... but if anything happens to the 360 I'm gonna drop in an XJ 4.0L... so I'd like to hit some sort of happy medium... suggestions? email me off list if you're interested in a nice Benz... :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com **** Snohomish, Washington USA don't leave life without jesus, please... http://wagoneers.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 13:24:56 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Fritz for sale. I've decided to sell my 81 300D in order to get a nice low mileage J10. Fritz is running well, has lots and lots of new stuff including a sunroof deflector, brakes, Michelin MXV4s, a/c stuff, water pump, battery, vacuum lock system and so on. The only ding is to the right rear door, nothing serious, about $100 will get you a new one at the salvage yard here in Seattle, in white even! :) Fritz also has sheepskin seat covers and perfect seats. He's got a working Blaupunkt am/fm cassette with a new antenna. cruise works. The only issues are minor ones, uses/leaks oil about a quart every 800 to 1000 miles, tranny likes to slip/hesitate going into 3rd. Been doing it since I've had him, even the shop says it's not a big deal. I've found a used tranny for $300, most yards have 'em for $750. not a problem. Full factory rebuild is spendy, but not needed. I think Fritz has about 143,000 miles on him. Averaging about 25 to 26mpg, have records, can check. Comes with a set of four studded snows on the steel rims with hubcaps, and the 4 michelins with alloy rims. two sets of lug nuts and spare parts included. Will sell a mostly complete set of shop manuals separately. :) I'm thinking if I put the price below $4k I'll have a better chance of selling it in comparison to all the other 300Ds for sale here on the west coast. There is absolutely NO rust whatsoever. Solid as a rock. So, I'm gonna ask $3,950 unless common wisdom from y'all suggests something other... :) john btw, I will deliver it as far as Salt Lake City, or maybe Mitchell, SD... :) ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com **** Snohomish, Washington USA don't leave life without jesus, please... http://wagoneers.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 13:37:47 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: oil cooler flush On Mon, 30 Aug 1999, Jon Filina wrote: >-->Responding to a synthetic oil question, John wrote: >-->Hmm... I'm using 4.61 on PC and 4.06 on my HP... 4.5 had bugs too... IE is also laden with problems... I've been having lockup problems with Win98 on my new Dell Latitude Cpi laptop, until I deleted internet explorer!!! And Bill claims it's an integral part of the operating system??? My IS department is trying to load a new version of Win98 rel2 on it to see if they can make it work... I've wasted tons of time on it... BTW, Sun has a PCI card setup on Ultra5's where you can run Win95 in a window on the sun... it's an actual hardware card... not too expensive. I've got to set it up for one of my ECAD guys... :) ttyl, john >--> >-->Jon >-->'81 240D 232,000 "Mathilde" >--> >--> ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com **** Snohomish, Washington USA don't leave life without jesus, please... http://wagoneers.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 23:41:10 -0700 From: john Subject: parts store shootings??? what's this all about??? In Washington state a lot of us have concealed carry permits and carry all the time... There have been a few times that the bad guys were stopped because law abiding citizens were able to defend themselves. Statistics show that in states were concealed carry permits are granted that crime declines. This isn't something the popular media promotes or advertises though... :( The truth is not part of the agenda... it appears it doesn't fit the paradigm they hold to... good intentions perhaps... and if I thought it'd solve the problem I'd get rid of my guns in a second... but it won't and I won't... Reality is harsh. We cannot expect justice in this life... it ain't gonna happen... :( There will be a day... my hope is in Him who calls that day. I pray it wasn't any of your friends... Anyone heard from Dan on the other FSJ list lately? he has an 87 GW... he lived down there... went wheeling with him and Tom up by Santa Barbara... Isn't there someone on the diesel-benz list down in those parts too? If one or more fuel injectors are worn or clogged, the engine will be real noisy when idling. As the injection pump delivers a higher pressure (when you push the gas pedal down), this noise will either stay if the injector is worn and sprays the fuel somewhere in the combustion chamber but not where it is intended to spray it or it will dissapear if the injector was clogged because the higher pressure pushes the dirt out. Either way, you will have a rough engine at idle and not as you described when accelerating. I'd only use products designed to clean Diesel systems found at Truck STops, co-ops, parts stores or through AMSOIL or Redline if they have a product. Also, it is very true that an injector can cause a knock. My 68 220d was knockin' and a rockin' and a smokin' like a mosquito fogger... it had a bad injector or two... :) Also seen the knock thing in another Diesel. john >-->At 09:23 30.08.99 -0400, you wrote: >-->>I've got an '82 300CD that has recently developed a slight knock in the >-->>engine when I accelerate.
