Hehehehehe.....If we had a dime for every time you said you were selling Fritz, well, we'd be able to buy ourselves a Dr. Pepper (in Texas, at least).... Glad to see you're having second thoughts, again. It would be a shame to see you Benz-less.... Jon '81 240D 232,500 mi. After discussing it with a few people, I think it is worth mentioning. Take a gander at the following: http://browserwatch.internet.com/news/story/news-990830-9.html If you are running Internet Explorer version 5, this will make you a bit itchy. I read this a few days ago. I clicked on Gusinski's link and read what he had to say. Then I clicked on the other link to see how to fix it. I figured it wasn't really worth the effort because I'm pretty careful about the internet sites I visit. I shut down my system that morning about 4:00 AM (I work nites). The next afternoon I cranked her up and was greeted with a message box on the desktop saying that the program was written by "Gusinski".... What did this tell me? If this information was known to certain unsavory types, instead of receiving a simple text message, my hard drive could be re-formatted, or my checkbook information could be transmitted to someone to use as they wished. It's some pretty scary stuff.... There are a lot of crackpots out there, which makes this little news item all the more scary. If you are running IE5, take a gander and make the appropriate fixes. If you are a Mac user (Mitch?), Win31 (Hack?), CP/M (Randy?) or a Unix user (John?), wipe that smirk from your face... Jon '81 240D 232,500 mi. "Mathilde" Computers don't bother her at all..... Thanx Jon, I use multiple systems... I just built my home PC last night, 400Mhz AMD, 96M, and loaded Win98 so it'll support multiple dialup protocols and the 8 gig drive... Rel 2 of Win98 loaded IE5 for me... I was considering not loading Netscape, but those plans will change. :) Thanx for the news. I'm in Linux right now, no, I'm in HP-UX, dialed up to Linux right now using PINE. (Pine Is Not Elm. :) FWIW, there are no secure systems. If man can make it, man can break it. :) Fritz is running fine, thinking about breaking. :) I'm thinking of selling now and getting a clean Turbo Diesel next spring. I'm drooling over an 80 Honcho J10 right now... thirsty sucker... 12mpg... :( I may have a 4.0L installed in it. Hey, all it takes is money, right? And building a used rig is a lot cheaper than buying new. I'm still in shock from the Mercedes Dealer call about the "used" 96 TD Benz... $42K!!!! and then I'd have to pay sales tax and tabs on top of that! Shoot, my first house didn't cost that much... How much better can a 96 E300 be than Fritz anyways? If I spend 10% of that on Fritz he'd be in showroom condition. I did this on the FSJ for about three years... finally sold Old Blue and bought Fritz. FWIW, Old Blue is for sale by the new owner, $4950, an 81 Wagoneer Ltd, factory moon roof, etc. It's not stock anymore, and most everything has been upgraded... :) My point is that I was flippin' and a floppin' with that one for years before I finally sold him... :) I like Fritz, but I know that there is work in the future (true of any car I suppose), I'd rather have a Turbo Diesel, and my wife and kids don't like driving or riding in Fritz... so... I'm enjoying commuting in my 81 300D, but dreaming of sitting tall in the saddle of an FSJ J10... :) and then lamenting the gas mileage... Life is tough when they don't make what you want and you can't afford the time or money to build your own... :) john On Fri, 3 Sep 1999, Jon Filina wrote: >-->In our current episode of "As the Benz Turns", John was heard to say: >--> >-->> I've found an 80 J10 for $2500... I'm waiting for a call from the guys at the shop I'm dealing with these days... they should be done installing four new Bilstein heavy-duty shocks by the end of the day, at roughly a hundred bucks per corner. Pricey, but given my lack of experience with shocks, it makes more sense than screwing it up and taking it to them to fix anyway. Photos and, for what they're worth, attempts at explanations of our summertime engine replacement will appear on my website sometime in the next two weeks... /--\ /-- ---\ - --O-----O-- -- mjm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Sep 1999 21:47:43 PDT From: Daniel A Jacobs Subject: Re: oil cooler flush And we all blindly trust the oil manufactureres when they slam a real on the road heavy duty test method?
