Take a gander at the following web site: http://sunshine.mbz.org/ After spending the better part of the last hour looking it over, I'm still confused. At first, I'd thought this was the site for some of the "rebels" that were not happy with the way the club was being run. That doesn't appear to be the case. I'll have to do more research. > My membership expired in August, and I haven't gotten around to renewing > it just yet... But I'm getting all this mail about shady deals, > violation of by-laws, the demise of the Star and so on and so on... From what I have read, it doesn't appear that the Star is in jeopardy. The advertising revenues seem to be the sticky point, though. > I'm beginning to wonder if I am gonna renew... I'll miss the Star, > but most of the issues are gas related anyways. :) I've been a member of the club for about one year. I am not a political animal and will probably never be one... I have no idea of how the club was run in the past and how that relates to the current situation. From my viewpoint, the Star is a nice magazine but not worth the $33 a year we are paying. The discounts for parts and services would pay for the membership if they were used. An independent parts house wouldn't honor a 10% discount, saying that they were selling at wholesale to begin with. Their price was the same as the dealer. Like a dummy, I kept forgetting to ask for the discount from the dealer's parts counter, but it would not have amounted to much. I did get a $210 discount on a clutch replacement from the same dealer after I asked for it, though. I could have saved another $300 over that if I'd had my current mechanic do the work, but we won't go down that side street..... In short, if you can make heads or tails out of the current election, I'd like to hear it. Otherwise, I'd much rather read the list messages and find out why you traded your bee laden drink for another one instead of getting your money back.... Did you get ants with the chocolate one??? I've just decided how to save $35 a year! :) People are such a pain some times. One of the reasons this list got started is because I quit editing/dealing with Off-Road.com. Some ugly stuff was going on over there... just two people. One just a less than honorable individual with poor morals, the other guy a "pothead" that was doing some strange stuff. I decided I didn't need the stress and bailed. They repaid my service by blocking me from the lists I'd started. So.... :) I started new ones on a different server. :) Worked out fine. :) Maybe the Benz club will get rid of the "snobs" and get down to dealing with fine automobiles. :) I'm not into wine-tasting cruises and stuff like that. I like the rallys and get togethers, but haven't found time to make it to one yet... oh well... One less thing to worry about. >-->Otherwise, I'd much rather read the list messages and find out why you >-->traded your bee laden drink for another one instead of getting your money >-->back.... No one wants to scrub the Star. All anyone wants is with regard to the Star is for there to be open bidding on the contract(which is currently negotiated in secret in a manner that cannot be considered "arms length"). At present, Frank Barrett and a few of his cronies run MBCA as their personal fiefdom (Mssrs. Beltz and Murphy, most prominently), which is not considered by some members as serving the general interest. However, as many hundreds of thousands dollars are at stake for this elite, the MBCA powers have gone on a disinformation campaign (as well as a campaign of suppression against all opinions that do not mesh with the disinformation), which includes, among many other things, the lie of the Star being dissolved and, most incredibly, the now somewhat infamous tall tale (which they claim to have "reported" to the FBI!) that I am the mastermind of a plot to assassinate George Murphy. Basically, this is how I understand the whole business, but I do not follow it as closely as many others. Personally, I too am saving my $35 and sometimes toy with the idea of working towards starting an MB enthusiasts club, apart from the corruption of the MBCA elite and MBUSA. Corrections on whatever errors I have transmitted are welcomed.
