The 81 300D will come with a set of MB steel wheels & covers with good studded snow tires on them... It has the Michelin MXV4's mounted on factory type alloys right now. Everything is working. (I'll need to replace that rear brake hose, not a big deal). The heater works, so does the ac, but I think the temp sensor needs to be replaced, or the tube got pinched again... The only flaw on the car is the right rear door. The previous owner's wife gouged it... and then I brushed it against my basketball pole and added to the damage... nothing serious, everything works. :) The car has 143,000 or 144,000 miles on it. Uses a quart every 800 miles or so. The transmission has a flare btwn 2-3, but I haven't tried the adjustment of the modulator yet, it has been doing it since I've had it, others have the same problem. The Becker cassette/radio is working nicely, the antenna has a new mast. All windows and locks work perfectly. It has IPF replacement lights with higher wattage lamps... they work great. The interior is clean and rip free (have sheepskin covers). I added a sunroof deflector and GTS headlight covers. I've even replaced the windshield squirter things. :) I'm thinking mid to low $3k range... does that sound reasonable? It also has a new windshield, brakes last year, new battery and has been running AMSOIL 100% Synthetic 15W40 Marine Grade Synthetic, and AMSOIL Synthetic ATF in the tranny... It's a very nice car... but something's got to go... it's a tough decision, but I haven't sold the mountain bike or my computers... :( Besides, if the J10 fever wears off I'll be looking for another Diesel Benz with a turbo the next time. :) john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com ...don't leave life without Jesus, please! Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ----------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Nov 1999 23:18:02 -0800 From: john (by way of john ) Subject: FS: 1981 300d Mercedes Benz - $3,500 obo This is what I posted to the seattle.forsale.transportation newsgroup... I'm open to reasonable offers... Fritz has been a great car. If the J10 doesn't work out and I have sold Fritz... well, by golly, I'll have to go shopping for another 123 with a Turbo... (Have a line on one at work, the new owners didn't realize what they were getting into... :) Anyways, let me know if you're interested. Don't forget studded snows come with it... I'll probably sell the manuals off once I'm happy with the newer J10... I'm not sure if I'll sell 'em on ebay or just set a price... any thoughts on that? john ================================= 1981 300D Mercedes Benz $3,500 obo excellent condition, low miles (143,000) http://wagoneers.com/DieselBenz/rigs/300D-1981/300d-mar99.jpg everything works - the central locking system, the cruise, the radio, the trip odometer, the sunroof, the windows... 26 to 29 mpg. 400 mile range in town before reserve... new windshield, battery, water pump, central locking system and climate control system parts. NEW Michelin MXV4 tires on alloy rims AND good studded snow tires on the stock steel rims (w/ wheelcovers) It has cruise, ac, power sunroof w/ deflector, IPF headlights with high wattage bulbs and GTS covers, excellent interior, Becker Grand Prix cassette/radio, ALL STOCK. Automatic transmission has AMSOIL Synthetic ATF. The engine has an AMSOIL Lifetime Air Filter and is using AMSOIL 15W40 Marine Grade Synthetic Diesel oil. The "negatives": - ------------------ minor body damage to right rear door. In addition, the car was originally a goldish color and was repainted white by the original owner... (If I didn't tell you you wouldn't notice...) the AT has a slight flare between 2nd and 3rd (it's a 4speed Auto). It's a common thing with this transmission and has been doing it for a long time. There is an adjustment I haven't tried yet that's supposed to fix it. I'm the third owner. I'm only selling because I've got too many vehicles and can't afford to keep all of them... :( It's a great car. The 123 chassis is one of the most popular Mercedes models and parts are plentiful AND affordable. A water pump for this thing costs less than one for a Chevy! and it's easier to install too. :) It handles incredibly well, the brakes are fantastic and it's one of the nicest riding cars I've ever seen... contact john at 360.668.5205 evenings, or email anytime at john-at-wagoneers.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Nov 1999 15:37:09 -0800 From: john Subject: vehicle shuffling... I'm definetly getting the 83 J10 Stepside with the 6 cylinder and 5 speed... Which means I need to sell my 80 J10 Honcho and 81 300d ASAP. I'm asking $3500 for each, they have lots of extras and are both in great shape... I'm open to offers... john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com ...don't leave life without Jesus, please! Will call the Benz dealer in the am... I'm outside taking goodies off my 80 Honcho before I put it up for sale... Nice truck, but way thirsty... The 83 with a six banger will get close to 20 mpg! around town 15 to 17mpg... not bad for a full size jeep with a GVW of 6,200lbs... :) Let me know on the price of my 81 300D, I'm asking $3,500 and it comes with two excellent sets of tires and rims... I really like the car, but can't justify having two vehicles for myself. Besides, my family doesn't like the Benz... they're too tall for the backseat... :) later, john - ----------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com ...don't leave life without Jesus, please!
