I heard that the exhaust manifold should be changed from RHD engine because it will be collided with its steering house. Anything else? There may be changes to fit around different > floorpans and rear suspensions, which may have minor effects on power > output. There is another significant difference. The TD motor has a peculiar head with a hydrolic pump driven by the camshaft. This supplies power to the rear (auto-leveling?) suspension. If you blow up a 300D, 300CD or 300SD motor, they are interchangeable. The TD motor is unique, and more expensive. One of my standing rules is that if any of my vehicles are in an accident or need to be towed, they're towed HOME. Another friend lost out on his 4.3L driveline the same way. The storage fees and costs aren't worth it. Even if you let them total it and don't buy it back, why not have the thing at your house so you can remove your personal effects without being rushed. I've had another friend find missing parts from his "impounded" vehicle... I don't trust the storage lots, not only do things turn up missing, but additional damage is likely too. Remember, tow it home and then sort things out with the insurance company and mechanics... it's cheaper to tow it again than to pay storage fees. Sorry to hear about the accidents... john - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com/UNIX ============================================================================== Microsoft Certified Professionals are to the computing industry what McDonald Certified Food Specialists are to gourmet restaurants. Jump here for a look at a (visually) VERY nice '87 300TD... I can never keep the chassis numbers straight, but I think this one's the wagon version of the 124. I wish the auction lot offered more pictures of it... The current asking price is $7950., as of Tuesday night... the seller's in Connecticut. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=299749749 By the way, the seller calls it a "6 cylinder diesel" -- because of the "300" designation, can't we be pretty sure that this was still a 5-cyl diesel? How I wish I could afford it... a turbodiesel wagon would be fun. -- mjm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2000 19:44:18 -0700 From: john Subject: Re: '87 300TD for sale, on e-bay according to Nitske's MB Production book, pg 230, it's a 124 Chassis with the "new 2996 cc six cylinder turbo charged diesel engine of 143 DIN horsepower (105kw), had 270 Nm Torque, and weighted 1,540 kilograms." Does this have the 4matic??? The book doesn't state so explicitly, but implies such... I wonder if it's suffering from rust at all? Any thoughts on this six cylinder engine? Would the 5 cylinder 300D be able to be swapped in??? john At 09:30 PM 4/11/00 -0500, mmason wrote: >I was searching e-bay for parts for the 123 cars (by the way, there isn't >much, save a few tail light assemblies)... > >Jump here for a look at a (visually) VERY nice '87 300TD...
