Engine is 300D 115 chassis. I assume this means it is busted? Anybody have experience of this? I see it is easy to change in and out. Also, should water circulate throught the heater without the assistance of an electric motor? I am not getting any heater heat. Note the engine is not still in the 115 chassis, hence most of the plumbing and wiring is my own, and I do not know what a 300D 115 chassis normally has. I'm a computer programmer by trade, and for hobbies, like to play with rolling stock. I have a couple of old British sports cars in the garage, and an old Cessna airplane out at the airport. I just acquired an '85 California 300D sedan. The car has 137,000 miles and is in very nice physical condition, with the exception of some nonworking gadgets. So far, I've fixed the power door locks, replaced the antenna, installed a new stereo, and changed the oil. The car seems to have had an engine swap done - the installed engine has an "automatic leveling system" pump. I've been made to understand that the automatic leveling system only came with the TD wagon. Whoever did the swap had a bit of a cavalier attitude towards hoses and wires - they left out the tachometer sender and sort of slapped the whole vacuum system together. The Mercedes technical information CD is supposed to arrive Real Soon Now. Until it does, I have my trusty Haynes manual, which is just about detailed enough to change the oil. So far, I'm quite impressed with the construction of the car - it really seems like it was made to last, especially the interior. - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 May 2000 09:50:16 -0600 From: John Bathory Subject: 1980 300dt for sale A friend of mine has asked me to sell his fathers 1980, 300TD, Turbo wagon for him. This is a single owner car, he originally purchased the car in Germany and had it imported 17 years ago. The body is in extremely good original condition and is rust free as this car has never been winter driven. Very nice light metallic green in color. The power train has 266,000 km (160,000 miles) and appears to run and drive very well. The interior is in very good original condition the color is a darker green the car has cloth seats. Very few options are on this car, power locks and sun roof is about all. The car is in Calgary and I'm asking $7000.00 Canadian, ($4400.00 US). If you have any questions please feel free to email me at jbathory-at-kilowatts.com. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 May 2000 11:28:19 -0500 From: mmason Subject: leads on diesel vehicle statistics? Hi -- any statisticians out there? :) I know some of us have put some serious effort into compiling data on our diesel Benzes (mpg, how long they've been on the road, 0-60 times, etc)... Does anyone know of any worthwhile studies that have been done on diesel vehicles of any sort (though I'd prefer to focus on MB cars if possible) which make use of scientific and statistical research methods? You know, the really dry stuff that they make you read in college stats classes... That's actually the reason I'm looking. (For a final paper in my intro Stats class, I've got to critique the methods and results of a few studies on relatively similar topics, and to make it vaguely interesting, I'm using a topic I'm enthusiastic about.) Possible areas of interest, if anyone knows where to find them: safety recalls on diesels, life expectancies of engines under different conditions, number of times a replacement engine has been swapped in (or used in a different vehicle, like a FSJ...) ;) John M., you've mentioned lots of tables and links based on our list-user input... any ideas over and above these? TIA for any help. -- mjm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 09:50:34 +0200 From: Thorsten Windhues Subject: Re: leads on diesel vehicle statistics? At home I do have e research paper that deals with diesel substitutes, mainly RME and vegetable oil. They have done a couple of studies concerning the life expectation of the different engine types (direct injection, prechamber and so on). This might not be quite what you want but if you want I can have a look where it is published when I get home.
