I thought the engine in my J10 had drawn it's last breath... turns out it was the carb and the ignition coil... I had already committed to buying the car when I figure it out. Was hoping that my wife would prefer it over the little wagoneer... shoot, I can't even bet my daughter to take it... what is it with these women? They prefer the little wagoneer to a nice S class Benz... :) john On Thu, 16 Nov 2000, Jerome Kaidor wrote: >-->John, >--> >--> Just curious, why did you buy it? (and if interested I'll post the final resolution to the list so we all can benefit). PROBLEM: 1988 Buick Regal, 2.8L MPFI, distributerless V6 Sputter. My daughter's buick has this occassional sputter... miss... it doesn't persist... seems to occur after it's warmed up, no check engine light or other indications (no flippin' gauges). I drove it to work today, went slow, normal and to the floorboard... only got it to do it once... kind of surprised me... a little rough spot sputter, didn't last long and I couldn't get it to do it again. I stopped by Jim Startup's and talked with them about it to get some ideas. They suggested checking for a broken plug and we talked about some sensors. The real problem is I have enough of my own problems. ;) But my daughter is paying her own way through college and drives down to Seattle for classes, Soooooooooo... it's 1.800.call.dad if it breaks. Tomorrow's my birthday and I was hoping to finish fixing SuperDawg's auxillary fuel tank setup, and install the glow plug relay on the 300SD... and finish the picket fence, and the sink install and start moving stuff out of the carport for concrete and.... and... Anyway, any suggestions on what this sputter might be would be appreciated off-list. The car has well over 200,000 miles and we really don't do much to it... I put AMSOIL in it when I got it about 6 or 7 years ago and we drive it... It has had a history of eating spark plug cables though... but that was a pretty consistent symptom... thanx, john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 15:09:13 -0800 From: Alec.Cordova-at-quintus.com Subject: Can I just upgrade front rotors and calipers? I'll try this question again, and see if those that may know the answer can catch it. Specifically, I'm talking about a 1995 C280, just the standard US version, and maybe a 1989 300CE, also the standard US version. But there may be a general-case answer to the question. Can I simply bolt on the front brake rotors and calipers from a C36/C43/500E, or do I have to upgrade other parts as well? Will the standard rear brakes, master cylinder, vacuum booster, and ABS system be happy enough? Any input on this? I know some people now consider these tow bars dangerous, and others claim that is being overprotective. Bottom line I am worried about is, does this Benz have a solid enough bumper mount system to keep the thing behind me? Thanks! - --- J. Michael Shaw, II ... You probably already know this, but just in case. Safety above all. Diesel Dan, the "whoah! Did you see that car fly off the back of that U-Haul? In Europe they require factory hooks for towing people off the autobahn... I do highly recommend disconnecting the driveshaft though. It's not as important as on american cars because the Benz tranny (at least on the 300SD) has a rear pump to prevent damage to the transmission.) But disconnecting the driveshaft has the added benefit of keeping unnecessary miles off of your odometer... unless of course your desire is to earn more badges from Benz... ;) john At 06:23 PM 11/17/00 -0800, wrote: >I am seeking some advice on renting a bumper tow bar and towing my 300D >about 500 miles.
