We need more details like that. :) Remember the digests are stored on wagoneers.com and digest. I have a search engine on wagoneers.com, but it's slow. Some day I'll rewrite the canned perl script so that the string searched for appears next to the page it lists. The wife seems to be ok with me keeping the Benz and just dropping the insurance... so, LW, that's the way I'm proceeding. I think I'll wait until I get the Howell TBI setup on SuperDawg before I decommission the Benz. :) john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 18:57:56 -0800 From: john Subject: Seats This the 1st email I'm composing from my palm vx. My springs seem weak. .john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 00:24:43 -0500 From: "Chris Straut" Subject: More W123 stereo replacement John, glad it helped :) Just curious, what kind of machine is wagoneers.com hosted on? A few things that I forgot to mention with regards to stereo installs in W123's.. The Bad News: The gas (or diesel!) tank is right behind the back seat, which causes some problems. The tank absorbs a significant amount of sound produced by trunk-mounted subwoofers. As a result, you'll probably need a more powerful subwoofer than would normally be required. If you have a significant amount of air being moved back there, the fuel tank tends to vibrate against the metal plate that resides between it and the back seat. Pulling the tank back about half an inch fixes this problem. If you want more bass in the cabin area, pulling the first-aid kit in the rear deck will typically give you a +3dB increase, effectively doubling the volume level. Wiring harnesses are a great thing to have when installing a new head unit. Clip one end of the harness to the old radio's connector, clip the other end to the new radio. Unfortunately they don't make any harnesses for W123's, so installing a new head unit involved a little soldering. If anyone installs a new radio in their W123 and needs help with the german radio color codes, I could pull my unit out and describe them without too much trouble. The Good News: W123's (and MBZ's in general) are very solid cars. Where most cars would be require extensive treatment with sound-deading material, a benz doesn't rattle one bit. This saves one a lot of money (sound-deadener is very expensive) and work. The noise floor in a Benz at highway speeds is typically lower than found in a typical car, so they are excellent candidates for stereo systems geared towards sound quality. Diesel benzes have large batteries, so you will have a lot of "key-off" play time at your disposal. Another bonus: if you want to show off your flashy new amplifiers, the vertical metal sheet in the trunk makes an excellent amp rack. Maybe this will help somebody later on down the road :) Feel free to me if you ever have any questions! Now that question wouldn't be too diffucult to answer, but it has to be a 230V version that I can take back to Germany. JCWhitney has a nice one with a circulation pump which is exactly what I am looking for. But they only have them as 110V versions... Oh, do you want to know why I am looking for one over here? These things are so cheap, they sell them for like 30 or 40 bucks while in Germany they cost about 200 USD.
