Some are emulsifiers, and they allow water to pass through the fuel system without doing any harm. Others are de-emulsifiers, which make water heavy and the water will settle in the bottom of your fuel tank. I also discovered it is useless to try to get this info from the products label. The only real remedy I can see for this situation is to periodically drain the fuel tank. The only product I know of that will emulsify water into deisel is "FPPF", usually found in truck stops. Maybe John has some usefull info about the Amsoil product for us. The former may be true, but it looks to me like the latter certainly is. Here in Nowheresville, Idaho, 70 miles from anything resembling either a freeway or a Walmart, it's $1.789, and I get 2% off cause I have an account with the distributor. And I'm sure they pay a lot more to truck it to here than to there. It's been one heck of a summer! I have been lurking but no time to participate much. The county I live in has gone socialist and tells me what I can/can't do/have on my property. I have some "delightfull" neighbors who reported me for "ordinance violations" and I've been spending the summer cleaning up my 20 acres of wildlife that used to be a farm with farm "stuff" on it. 40 years worth of acumlation had to be removed in short order. Anyway, that's coming to a close. Part of the GOOD news about my cleanup is that I am putting a new roof on my garage/shop. Not just roofING but a WHOLE roof. New trusses and the works. After jumping through hoops because the building is "non-conforming" i.e. too close to the road (60 feet is too close!) I got approval to put on the new roof. I removed the old roof, put 20" stud extensions on top of the block walls and then new trusses on that. I just have the trusses "laying" on the building ready to be tipped up and set but weather is not cooperating. It's not a fancy shop but it's mine ;) It was built in 1958 and has suffered from neglect. Trees were allowed to grow right at the foundation and busted up the walls a bit but I think the building is basically sound. There are some pic's of the project at: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1332548&a=10195935 I've made significant progress on the roof since these pics. I'll try to get more posted this week. Later folks... Anyway, that's coming to a close. I have a brother who is, um, a much more creative thinker than I am. He has a neighbor like yours, who hates his guts because his house is the picture perfect New England cottage kind of place, and my brother's doesn't quite measure up. Some years ago my brother built a shed in his back yard, that turned out to be a couple feet bigger than allowed without a building permit. The neighbor called the building inspector, who came out and said it had to come down. So my brother put a big pipe under it, bolted an old wheel on each end, and bolted a 4x6 to one end to look like a trailer tongue. When the inspector came back, my brother told him it's not a shed anymore, it's now a trailer. Inspector said it doesn't look roadworthy, I'm not gonna let you get away with that. My brother said, "Since when are you a vehicle inspector? I thought you were a building inspector." The guy was hopping mad but couldn't do anything about it, and the shed, I mean trailer, stayed there for a number of years. :) Obligatory MB diesel content: I'm still looking for an '86-up 300SDL for my wife to test drive.. But I think I've seen about 4 MB's in this county, and 2 or 3 were just passing through.
